In addition to the winery, the expansive property features three owner residences, a guest house, a casita, and a manager’s home. The Grounds and Buildings Maintenance Manager will reside on the winery property in housing provided as part of the position. Living on property is an essential part of the role but does not mean being on duty at all times.

We are seeking an experienced manager to plan and direct buildings and systems upkeep across the property’s winery, residences and outbuildings. This position requires practical knowledge and experience with painting, masonry, basic plumbing, minor electrical, general equipment maintenance, carpentry and mechanical work to assess needs, set priorities, delegate tasks, and oversee staff and contractors.

  • Coordinate staffing and prepare schedules, assign work, train and coach employees, evaluate overall performance, and ensure compliance with applicable wage and hour policies, including, without limitation, accurate timekeeping, overtime, meal/rest periods, safety practices, and break coverage for hourly, non-exempt employees.
  • Make recommendations about hiring, firing, promotions and other changes in employee status.
  • Exercise independent judgment in setting and overseeing maintenance priorities, staffing, and work assignments.
  • Plan and monitor maintenance budgets, approve purchases and select qualified vendors within owner-approved budgets.
  • Oversee and supervise after-hours duties, including routine maintenance, errands, and security watch, and assigning duties and tasks to staff as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish, spoken and written
  • Valid California Driver’s License and a clean driving record
  • Ability to travel throughout the property for inspections and emergency coordination.
  • Prior experience managing grounds, facilities, or maintenance teams on an estate, ranch, winery, farm or at a maintenance facility, including staff scheduling, performance reviews, and vendor oversight.
  • Treat all matters relating to the family, their guests, and the property as confidential; exercise sound judgment. This does not restrict lawful discussion of wages, hours, or working conditions, or protected activity under applicable federal and state law.
  • Use sound judgment with delegated authority and promptly involve HR or the owners in sensitive personnel, safety, or significant financial matters.
  • Work well with and collaborate with gardening, vineyard and housekeeping team members.
  • Ability to work independently, evaluate alternatives and make management decisions about staffing, priorities, and tasks.
  • Physical ability to perform onsite inspections and manual labor in varying weather conditions, lift and carry up to 50 lbs., and work on uneven or sloped terrain.
  • Manage and execute owner-requested projects.
  • Practical knowledge and experience with painting, masonry, basic plumbing, minor electrical, general equipment maintenance, carpentry and mechanical work to evaluate proposed work, direct qualified staff and personnel, and assess results.
  • Must be able to work approximately 60 scheduled hours per week Monday – Saturday and provide assigned after-hours management coverage.
  • Desired but not essential duties include the ability to handle machinery such as tractors, SUV’s, UTV’s, excavators, forklifts etc. Must be willing to get trained on the equipment.
  • Must reside on the property in the three-bedroom manager residence. Housing and utilities, including PG&E, water and internet, are provided without charge, in addition to and not as a credit against the offered salary, under a separate housing agreement consistent with applicable federal and state law.

Work Hours: Generally, 7am – 5pm, Monday to Saturday. After the winery closes you will lock doors, turn off lights, check gates, check residences and winery to make sure buildings are secure.

After-Hours Coverage and Emergency Response

  • Residency: You are required to live on-site at the property.
  • Managerial Response Role: During assigned coverage, assess the urgency of alarms, power failures, leaks, storms, damages, and other hazards, and authorize, delegate, and direct staff, vendors, or emergency services as appropriate.

During assigned coverage, you must be reachable by cellular phone and, when permitted to be offsite, able to return within one hour notice.
  • General On-Site Expectation: Aside from designated response times, you are expected to be present on the property to monitor, manage, and mitigate any unpredicted dangers or sudden property needs during the evenings/night.

Excellent references and a strong history of reliability are required. When applying, please provide a brief description of your experience with managing employees, property maintenance, mechanical repairs, contractors and ranch/winery/estate operations, and any other experience relevant to this position.
