About the Role Granular Mechanics and Regolith Operations Engineer needed on-site at Cape Canaveral, FL to support NASA Swampworks lab work on granular mechanics and regolith testing for technology development and risk reduction. The role requires collaboration with project PIs to characterize lunar regolith behavior and advance surface system concepts. What You'll Do
- Conduct testing of robotic equipment in thermal, vacuum, dusty environments to meet characterization and application testing needs for diverse projects.
- Develop test plans and provide engineering solutions for tests in high vacuum; conduct regolith testing, data processing, and report findings to principal investigators; support publication to peer-reviewed journals.
- Apply knowledge of lunar regolith and granular mechanics fundamentals to NASA missions and objectives. What We're Looking For
- Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Civil Engineering, Materials Science, Space Systems or closely related field.
- Experience in granular mechanics, geotechnical engineering, planetary science, or regolith/soil behavior.
- Experience in software and robotics; proficiency with LabView and PACT/MEERCAT software.
- Experience characterizing lunar regolith simulant behavior in ambient and vacuum conditions.
- Experience developing granular mechanics testing apparatus. Nice to Have
- Experience working within Kennedy Space Center labs.
- Experience with KSC lab procedures and regulations.
- Experience with BP-1, LHS-1E, ICN-LHT-1G or similar simulants.
