Job Summary

We are seeking a motivated and technically inclined Mechanical Engineering Graduate Trainee to join our Engineering and Maintenance team in Goonite (NG) Hygiene Product. The successful candidate will undergo practical, on-the-job training in the maintenance and operation of production equipment, precision tool sharpening, machine troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance. The role provides an opportunity to develop hands-on mechanical engineering skills within a manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the sharpening and maintenance of rotary cutting knives, slitter blades, embossing rolls, and other precision tools.

  • Learn to operate grinding and sharpening machines under the supervision of experienced technicians.

  • Assist in inspecting cutting edges and machine components using precision measuring tools.

  • Support routine and preventive maintenance of diaper and sanitary pad production machines.

  • Assist in identifying and troubleshooting basic mechanical faults and equipment breakdowns.

  • Support the replacement, adjustment, alignment, and lubrication of machine components.

  • Learn to work with mechanical components including bearings, shafts, gears, rollers, belts, chains, and pneumatic systems.

  • Assist in maintaining records of tool sharpening, machine maintenance, breakdowns, and repairs.

  • Work closely with Production and Maintenance teams to minimize machine downtime and ensure smooth production.

  • Follow all approved maintenance procedures, work instructions, and health and safety requirements.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop and working environment.

  • Participate actively in technical training and other learning opportunities provided by the company.

  • Perform other engineering and maintenance duties assigned by the supervisor.

  • Qualification

  • ND/HND/B.Eng./B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related field.

  • Fresh graduates and candidates with 0–2 years of relevant experience are encouraged to apply.

  • NYSC graduates or candidates who have recently completed their service year may be considered.

  • Required Skills & Competencies

  • Basic understanding of mechanical engineering principles.

  • Willingness to learn practical engineering and workshop skills.

  • Basic knowledge of engineering tools and measuring instruments.

  • Ability to read and understand basic technical drawings is an advantage.

  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.

  • Good communication and teamwork skills.

  • Safety-conscious and willing to work in a manufacturing environment.

  • Ability to work shifts when required.
