Job title: Governance Fellow

About the Role A mentored, time-limited Governance Fellow engagement focused on governance systems, democratic institutional design, and Global Majority-led movement infrastructure for Global Artivism. The contractor will support governance architecture development and documentation, committee coordination, and research that informs the Democratic Transition process. The Fellow will contribute to governance development, take initiative on assigned tasks, and grow through mentorship and hands-on engagement. This is an independent contractor engagement under Global Artivism's fiscal sponsorship with Res Publica US Inc; contractors set their own hours, may work with other clients, and are responsible for taxes and compliance in their country of residence.

What You'll Do

  • Governance Documentation: develop and maintain governance documents (frameworks, committee charters, terms of reference, process docs); maintain organized library; ensure current, accessible, consistently formatted; prepare governance materials for Global Council meetings and committee sessions.
  • Committee Coordination: assist with scheduling, materials, meeting notes, follow-up; maintain committee trackers; support communication between Movement Secretariat and committee leads; help prepare agendas and briefing packs.
  • Democratic Transition and Electoral Process Support: conduct research on governance models, electoral processes, and democratic participation; assist in drafting materials for Democratic Transition Roadmap (2025–2027); help prepare electoral framework and testing docs; track milestones.
  • Governance Research: research governance models from civil society, cooperatives, and movement organizations; prepare summaries and briefing notes; stay current on distributed governance, participatory democracy, and decentralized leadership; contribute to knowledge products.
  • Collaboration: coordinate with Governance Lead, Operations Director, Movement Secretariat, Global Council and Committees on agreed deliverables.

What We're Looking For

  • Ability to manage multiple documentation tasks, meet deadlines, with attention to accuracy/formatting.
  • Experience gained through union organizing, participatory facilitation, cooperative governance, or community-based decision-making counts alongside academic or formal work history.
  • Good written English; able to prep governance docs and briefing materials.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently within defined scope.
  • Genuine interest in governance, movement building, or institutional design.
  • Ability to operate as an independent contractor, including managing own schedule, tools, and tax compliance.
  • Commitment to Global Artivism’s values, mission, and guiding principles.
  • Multilingual ability—languages relevant to Global South contexts strongly preferred.

Nice to Have

  • Background in governance, law, political science, international development, or related fields.
  • Interest in Global Majority leadership, democratic governance, distributed power, or movement infrastructure.
  • Experience with civil society, NGO, or movement organizations.
  • Familiarity with arts, culture, or social justice movements.
  • Additional language skills relevant to Global South contexts.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Independent contractor engagement: 12-month contract starting August 2026 with potential renewal based on funding and mutual agreement.
  • Remote with flexible scheduling across multiple time zones; may serve other clients; responsible for taxes, insurance, and local registrations/compliance.
