About this role

About the Role The Glass Technology Engineer will serve as the Glass Technologist for Corning's Gorilla Glass division, focusing on raw materials and glass composition technologies to support current and next-generation Gorilla Glass products and processes. The role involves identifying gaps in materials and process systems, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure glass compatibility with downstream processing and customer requirements. You will help drive new glass compositions, equipment, and manufacturing-ready processes from R&D through Division Engineering into Production. What You'll Do

  • Work with MCE Division Engineering, Gorilla Glass Plants, MTE and Characterization Sciences to develop, implement and migrate glass measurements and equipment for improve precision, accuracy and reliability for Gorilla Glasses as needed.
  • Work with plant glass technologists to evaluate trends in chemistry, physical property and IOX data across glass compositions and locations, investigating for root cause and then proposing action plans to make improvements where necessary.
  • Use engineering principles and data to provide second level assistance to help solve operational issues related to glass technology and raw materials.
  • Support and approve experiments with raw materials and glass compositions.
  • Collaborate with internal customers, Development, Research, MCE Division Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, Mixing, Melting, Forming and Product Engineering for production including new or modified raw materials, raw materials processes and technology.
  • Use KT, risk assessment, MEE, DMAIC, Innovation and other tools to deliver results.
  • Provide guidance/training to other personnel on how to perform testing properly.
  • Assist in the onboarding, validation and migration of new procedures and gauges through project work and SOP development.
  • Travel Requirements: Travel up to 25% (mix of domestic and international). What We're Looking For
  • Experience with glass materials and production processes, with a focus on raw materials and glass composition technologies.
  • Ability to evaluate chemistry, physical properties, and IOX data across glass formulations and locations; strong problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills.
  • Proficiency in applying engineering principles and data to diagnose and resolve operational issues related to glass technology.
  • Experience in designing, approving and interpreting experiments involving raw materials and glass compositions.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams (Development, Research, Quality, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Product Engineering) and to support production with new or modified materials and processes.
  • Familiarity with KT, risk assessment, MEE, DMAIC, Innovation and other problem-solving tools.
  • Capacity to provide guidance and training on testing procedures and to assist in onboarding, validation and SOP development.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% domestically and internationally. Nice to Have
  • Experience with Gorilla Glass or related consumer electronics glass is a plus.
