About the Role The Generalist I, Plant HR at Sonoco will lead the plant HR function in Toluca, Mexico, overseeing compensation, compliance, talent management, employee relations and engagement, DE&I, and recruitment support in partnership with COEs, plant leadership and the Field HR Manager. What You'll Do

  • Oversee employee compensation: Implements compensation changes consistently using best practices, including spot bonuses, job structures and base rates; design programs for the local external environment with Corporate Compensation; ensure general wage increases are communicated; handle workers’ compensation claims.
  • Ensure compliance with employment law and HR regulations: keep plant management updated on compliance topics; conduct annual harassment and workplace violence training; serve as point of contact for other compliance training topics (e.g., cyber security) as needed.
  • Oversee talent management: collaborate with COEs, plant leadership and Field HR Manager; develop coaching skills for performance improvement; manage plant progression and development plans; advise on company policies, procedures, legal requirements, performance, discipline, benefits, restructuring; provide coaching to operations leadership.
  • Oversee Employee Relations, Engagement and DE&I: build positive relationships with salaried and hourly workforce; facilitate open discussion and conflict resolution; monitor engagement and morale; investigate employee issues; review Disciplinary Background Investigations and train others in the process; partner with corporate DE&I functions for plant training and activities.
  • Support plant recruiting: partner with COE to identify needs, monitor recruiting efforts and adjust strategy to attract talent; in locations without recruiting partners, work with plant leadership to identify needs and fill open positions in a timely manner. What We're Looking For
  • Experience in HR generalist responsibilities including compensation, compliance, employee relations, engagement, and talent management.
  • Knowledge of employment law and HR compliance regulations; ability to keep management informed on topics; experience conducting trainings and investigations; strong coaching and counseling skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with COEs, plant leadership and the Field HR Manager; experience partnering with corporate HR functions; able to coach operations leadership.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with both salaried and hourly workforce; ability to handle sensitive issues with discretion and integrity.
  • Experience supporting recruiting efforts and adjusting strategies to attract talent.
