About this role

About the Role The HR/FA Generalist coordinates day-to-day human resources, faculty affairs and payroll functions for departments within the Medicine Pod. The role may participate in special projects and provide back-up coverage to other HR/FA staff, with regular updates to Directors. What You'll Do

  • Support HR/FA functions within the department and provide back-up support to generalists, managers and directors; meet weekly with Directors to provide updates; may attend meetings to review HR/FA transactions; provide vacation/time-off back-up coverage.
  • Recruitment: assist with posting positions via Columbia’s job site (TalentLink and ASR/Interfolio) and other advertising sources; schedule in-person meetings; manage the I-9 process; complete pre-hire background checks; process new hires and changes.
  • Onboarding: onboard staff, faculty, researchers and students; schedule welcome program and medical surveillance; UNI creation; communicate with new hires and departments; initiate and process template-based hires in PeopleSoft and/or nominations; process short-term visitors and students using JIRA.
  • Payroll and PeopleSoft: oversee payroll processing using TLAM; manage time-off trackers; process employment changes in Talent Link and PAF updates for PeopleSoft; liaise with internal/external stakeholders to ensure timely processing of transactions (new hires, reappointments, terminations).
  • Compliance and Immigration: manage immigration needs (F-1, J-1, H-1, O-1, TN-1); prepare visa documents; coordinate with Compass and ISSO; submit termination forms; track I-9, annual trainings, influenza, HIPAA, COI, visa end-date status, etc.
  • Systems and Project Work: use HR ticketing system; maintain employee records; upload documents to Visual Vault; participate in other duties as assigned. What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent plus at least 3 years of relevant HR experience; highly organized, resourceful, detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities under time pressure.
  • Professionalism, diplomacy, discretion, and collaboration across levels; strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office; able to learn university policies and systems quickly. Nice to Have
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field.
  • Familiarity with university policies, procedures, and systems. Compensation & Benefits
  • Salary Range: $75,000–$85,000 per year; 35 hours per week.
  • The finalist's salary will be set based on factors including departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, and training.
