Job title: General Worker - District Floater

About the Role This is a full-time on-site food service role with Reading School District, supporting district-wide school meal programs by preparing and serving meals across multiple schools. The position requires adherence to HACCP and sanitation guidelines, the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, and occasional cash register operation. Travel between schools is required to cover absences.

What You'll Do

  • Understand and apply regulations for National School Lunch, School Breakfast, Fresh Fruit & Vegetable, and CACFP programs.
  • Perform routine tasks in food preparation as directed by recipes, production records, portion guides, and leadership personnel for meal programs and events (e.g., sandwiches, meat slicing, heating, chopping vegetables, salads/fruit, desserts, checking temperatures, portioning, packing).
  • Serve food to students and staff according to meal counting and claiming procedures.
  • Perform cashier duties if needed.
  • Receive, stock, and rotate incoming/outgoing food items; assist with inventory and daily production records.
  • Ensure food safety and cleanliness; follow HACCP and sanitation guidelines. Follow safety rules for accommodating allergies and special diets; adhere to County Health regulations and district standards.
  • Participate in professional development as directed; provide courteous, professional customer service and maintain a positive image of the district.
  • Travel to various schools daily to cover absences; perform other duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

  • Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or GED; previous experience in food service preferred.
  • Specialized Knowledge/Certification: ServSafe Certification preferred.
  • Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform basic math, rates, ratios, percentages, and basic change calculations.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions and handle problems.
  • Other Skills/Abilities: Strong organization and communication skills; ability to operate an electronic cash register and give change; positive interaction with students and staff; understand the National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs.
  • Physical Demands: Must be able to lift 50 pounds; reliable transportation required; extensive standing/walking; ability to reach above head and bend as needed.
  • Work Environment: Noise level can be loud; suitable for a school cafeteria setting.
