Rural Physicians Group is seeking 2 general surgeons for ongoing 2 week on/2 week off call rotation.

Program Type: Full-time General Surgery (14days on/ 14 days off)

Hospital Location: Cambridge, NE

Brief Description: Critical Access hospital located in Southwest Nebraska providing comprehensive primary care services to our region with a personal touch. TVHS has a robust specialty provider arrangement providing extensive orthopedic and pain management services. Labor and delivery services (including c-sections) provided by primary care team.

Community Size: Primary catchment approx.: 6,000 Secondary approx.: 10,000

Local Industries/Economy: Primarily Ag and Ag Manufacturing.

Local Attractions: Hunting, fishing, area lakes

Skill set required:

Upper and Lower Endoscopy

  • Screening

  • Diagnostic

Appendectomy

  • Laparoscopic
  • Open

Cholecystectomy

  • Laparoscopic
  • Open

Hernia Repair

  • Inguinal
  • Ventral
  • Incisional

Setting

Critical Access Bed size 20 No designated ICU Average ED call volume: 1300 o 1-2 per week (estimate)

o 1-2 emergent surgeries per month (goal)

Anesthesia Coverage:

o CRNA currently one provider per day

Surgery Staffing

Typical Crew: 2

Have a PA-C that can provide assist as well as Physicians if needed – would not be primary preference

Would have dedicated day per week in OR, potential dedicated scope days

Excisional Skin Procedures (pretty large need)

Surgical Vascular Access (important – and should be growing, we are increasing our cancer footprint)

Rural Trauma Stabilization

Would like to have breast case options if possible, even if it is just one of the two surgeons.

Clinic

  • Staffing
  • Full Time front office/reception to be ran through the existing rural health clinic
  • Will have a dedicated nurse for clinic operations.
  • Clinic manager is the Director of Clinic Operations and Clinic Nurse Manager
  • Schedule: 2-3 half-day clinics
  • Typically 2 days with overflow ability in the additional day – We would try to consolidate clinic to 2 days as much as possible. With surgery overflow flexibility.
  • Clinic Procedures: Procedure room for minor cases – have a clinic procedure room and Scope/ minor room in operating area as well.
  • “Partnership” mentality with other surgeon – cross coverage, complementing skillsets, inter-referral
  • Critical to maintain collegial relationship with primary care providers, both physician and advanced practice providers: 80% of referrals come from outpatient providers.
  • General details
  • Shift rotations: TWO weeks on, two weeks off
  • Handoff day: Thursday at noon with some room for flexibility.
  • Bed Count: 20 No designated ICU, have two monitored rooms with good capabilities.

Number of Operating Rooms: 1 OR, 1 Procedure, Annual ED Volume is approx. 1,300

Average ED Call Volume per week: 1-2 per week

Compensation Details

$509K

2 weeks on 2 weeks off ongoing $2700 per shift + $100 per shift for travel $509K per year 1099 (Not locum) Lodging provided, family welcome to join while on duty
