About the Role

Under moderate supervision, operates and maintains campus wide building(s) with regards to appearance, comfort elements, equipment operation, lighting, life safety systems, building envelope issues (windows, doors, roofs) and maintain a preventive maintenance program for assigned buildings in order to provide a safe environment in all University facilities, including classrooms, student residences, dining facilities, laboratories, athletic facilities, and any other property or facility owned or operated by the University in accordance with applicable standards of the trades and regulatory agencies.

What You'll Do

  • Operates, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs, as required, all building systems, equipment and fixtures consistent with manufacturer’s guidelines, design parameters, and accepted practices.
  • Inspects buildings and roofs.
  • Maintains, makes operational repairs and performs preventative maintenance tasks for residential and commercial-type building systems, materials, equipment and fixtures.
  • Operates and keeps in good working order a variety of equipment including hand and power tools, mobile electronic devices, measuring/diagnostic/testing meters and instruments.
  • Reads and interprets basic blueprints, sketches, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Performs brazing, silver and lead soldering, pipe fitting, welding and fabrication as required.
  • Performs various carpentry, masonry, painting, plumbing, electrical, heating and air conditioning work as required.
  • Coordinates repairs with other trades, offices and departments affected by all operations.
  • Assists in furniture and event setups and break downs, decorations for special functions, meetings, etc.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

  • Experience maintaining and operating campus/building systems; ability to troubleshoot and repair diverse building components.
  • Knowledge of life safety systems, building envelope issues (windows, doors, roofs).
  • Ability to read basic blueprints, sketches, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Proficiency with hand and power tools and diagnostic instruments.
  • Skills in brazing, soldering, pipe fitting, welding and fabrication.
  • Competence in carpentry, masonry, painting, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC work.
  • Strong coordination with other trades, offices, and departments.
  • Flexibility to assist with furniture and event setups and decorations for special functions.
  • Willingness to work the 3rd shift.
