Job title: General Chemistry Lab Student Teaching Assistant I NFWS (26/27)
About the Role This is a student teaching assistant position for currently enrolled University of La Verne students in the General Chemistry Lab. Lab TAs assist the instructor in the proper functioning of the lab, model proper laboratory safety, and help students follow techniques while conducting experiments. The role may extend to Spring 2027 pending evaluation of performance.
What You'll Do
- Come prepared and on time (or earlier) to the lab with proper PPE and knowledge of the experiment, ready to answer student questions
- Attend the weekly lab meetings
- Be proactive in the lab, monitor student techniques and safety, and prevent cross-contamination
- Communicate any concerns with Lab instructors, Lab Coordinators, and Lab Managers regarding chemicals or lab safety
- Maintain lab cleanliness, assist with setup/cleanup, organize chemicals, and manage waste containers and pipettes as needed
- Grade assignments within a reasonable turnaround time
- Commit to Fall and Spring semesters with a minimum of 10 hours per week
What We're Looking For
- Successful completion of CHEM 201/202 (depending on the section) with a grade of B- or better
- Mandatory attendance at weekly lab meetings
- Commitment to Fall and Spring semesters for at least 10 hours/week
- Current University of La Verne student
Nice to Have
- Recommendation from a Chemistry instructor
- Driven with initiative and ability to communicate effectively
- Basic knowledge of Excel
- Dependable, reliable, and self-sufficient
Compensation & Benefits
- Hourly rate: $16.90
- Paid Sick Leave: 1 hour for every 30 hours worked, up to 24 hours per year, capped at 48 hours
