About this role
Job title: Furnace Engineer - Hot Press Furnaces
About the Role We work on 5- and 10-Ton Hot Press Furnaces with configurable hot zones (ceramic for air up to 1650°C, graphite or metallic for vacuum/inert gas) and temperatures up to 2300°C (2600°C in batch mode). The role focuses on supporting the design, operation, and optimization of these high-temperature systems, including control interfaces, instrumentation, and production readiness.
What You'll Do
- Work with 5- and 10-Ton Hot Press Furnace systems, including hot zone configurations, press rods, travel, and hydraulic frame components.
- Manage temperature control across the operating range, including thermocouple retractor and pyrometer with automatic switch-over for smooth operation above 2000°C.
- Interface with various pumping systems (diffusion, turbo, roughing) and ensure vacuum or gas environments meet process requirements.
- Utilize classic instrumentation or PC-based HMI interfaces for control, data trending, logging, alarming, and recipe management, with potential networking.
- Support conversion between furnace and batch configurations for production needs.
What We're Looking For
- Background in mechanical engineering, materials science, or a related field with experience with high-temperature furnaces and vacuum or inert gas environments.
- Familiarity with hydraulic press systems, press rod travel (4"), precision control (0.001" increments), and high-temperature instrumentation (thermocouples, pyrometers).
- Ability to work with standard instruments or PC/HMI-based control interfaces.
Nice to Have
- Experience with batch furnace configurations and conversion to batch operation.
- Knowledge of temperature uniformity considerations and safety practices for high-temperature equipment.
- Interest in data logging, alarming, recipe management, and basic networking for furnace control.
