Job title: Full-time Teaching Faculty – Economics, School of Business
About the Role Southern Adventist University seeks a full-time teaching faculty member in the School of Business for face-to-face classroom instruction on the campus in Collegedale, TN, with expertise in applied business economics. The ideal candidate will connect economic principles to real-world business decisions and strategy, bridging theory and practice within ethical, biblically informed global business education. This role emphasizes using economics as a versatile framework for decision-making across firms, markets, and organizations, and integrating current events and SDA values to foster career readiness.
What You'll Do
- Prepare and teach undergraduate and graduate courses (e.g., microeconomics, macroeconomics, international business and economics, business analytics, international business strategy; 12 credit hours/semester).
- Develop innovative course materials, incorporating data tools, case studies, and global simulations aligned with SDA values.
- Maintain accurate records (grades, syllabi, attendance) and provide timely feedback.
- Contribute to scholarly/professional engagement (e.g., publications, conferences) and curriculum development/accreditation.
- Provide academic, career, and spiritual advising; maintain 8+ hours of weekly office hours (for accessibility and support).
- Facilitate experiential learning outside of the classroom (e.g., sponsor student clubs/groups, industry networking, study tours).
- Sponsor/co-sponsor for student groups.
- Nurture students' spiritual and professional growth, guiding them toward God's calling in ethical global business.
- Actively contribute to departmental and university committees. Positively contribute to the spiritual tenor, collegiality, and mission of the department and university.
- Other duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For
- Earned doctorate in economics or doctorate with a master’s in economics or closely related field from an accredited institution, with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in the area(s) of expertise.
- Minimum of five years of professional experience in for-profit sectors.
- Ability to articulate integration of biblical foundations in applied business economics in local and international contexts.
- Demonstrated commitment to student learning, engagement, and holistic advising (academic, career, spiritual).
- Evidence of successful teaching at undergraduate/graduate levels, with a focus on student-centered, experiential learning (preferred).
- Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities; proficiency in English (read/write/speak).
- Commitment to diverse student success and to building analytical and intercultural competencies within a Christian Seventh-day Adventist context.
Nice to Have
- Evidence of successful teaching at undergraduate/graduate levels, with a focus on student-centered, experiential learning (preferred).
