About the Role The Full-Time Staff Psychologist is part of Counseling Services and provides direct clinical services to Health Sciences students at Columbia University Irving Medical Center to support academic success and retention. The role involves crisis intervention, diagnostic assessment, psychotherapy, triage, and outreach in a culturally sensitive manner.

What You'll Do

• Provide evaluation, diagnosis, short-term treatment, consultation, and referrals as needed.
• Deliver crisis intervention in urgent situations and triage via telephone with students requesting appointments.
• Provide care in an interpersonally and culturally sensitive manner; document care per law and best practices.
• Conduct outreach and education to students and the campus community; participate in Quality Improvement activities and after-hours on-call rotation; engage in academic inquiry and professional development.
• Participate in committee activities and team meetings; coordinate clinically within Student Health on Haven; perform other job-related responsibilities as requested.

What We're Looking For

• Doctorate in clinical or counseling psychology; licensure or license-eligible in New York; minimum of three years’ psychotherapy experience.
• Computer literacy including Microsoft Office; familiarity with electronic scheduling systems and electronic medical records (highly desirable).
• Evidence of experience working with distressed patients and/or psychiatric inpatient unit or the functional equivalent; demonstrated competence in crisis intervention and assessing need for psychiatric hospitalization and supervising referrals.
• Demonstrated excellence in diagnostic nomenclature and understanding best practices in diagnostic evaluations and time-limited psychotherapy; demonstrated excellence in multicultural competency.

Nice to Have

• Prior experience in urgent care coordination and high-risk psychological evaluations.
• Experience with the psychological care of young adults with subspecialties: multicultural psychology, eating disorders, DBT, group therapy, campus outreach and substance abuse.
• Training and experience in short-term models of treatment; prior experience in a university mental health service or comparable healthcare system.

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary range: $100,000 - $115,000 per year.
