About the Role Lafayette College is seeking a Full-Time Police Officer to protect life, limb, property, and campus operations. The role includes armed patrol of the campus, enforcement of college rules and laws, investigation of incidents, security of buildings, and support for special events. What You'll Do
- Conduct armed patrol of the campus by vehicle and on foot, including Directed Patrol as assigned by Public Safety Command Staff.
- Investigate reports of criminal activity and document interactions in the department’s record management system.
- Provide security for all campus buildings and property; assist in securing buildings and report dangerous conditions affecting students, staff, or property.
- Direct traffic and investigate motor vehicle accidents.
- Provide a variety of services including medical transports, motorist assists, money escorts, lock/unlock requests, and responses to fire alarms, burglary alarms, panic alarms, accidents, and investigations.
- Conduct crime awareness programs with Resident Advisors for the students.
- Check for suspicious activity, equipment malfunctions, and other irregularities; report findings.
- Provide security at special events on campus.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director, Chief of Police, Lieutenant, or Sergeant. What We're Looking For
- Completion of PA Act 120 training.
- Certifiable under Act 235 Lethal Weapons Training Act.
- Ability to be commissioned as a police officer under Section 501 of the Non-Profit Corporation Law.
- Meet requirements of Section 7504 of the Pennsylvania Crimes Code.
- Pennsylvania residency at time of appointment.
- Excellent organizational skills, superior interpersonal skills (verbal and written), and an ability and desire to work closely with all constituencies of the College including students, staff and faculty, in addition to the general public.
- Prior experience as a community-oriented police officer is a plus. Nice to Have
