Foundry Operations Engineer (Resident)

Allegro
Minnesota, US
On-siteUSD 115,000 - 170,000 / year

About this role

About the Role

Allegro MicroSystems is seeking a Resident Fab Engineer to serve as the primary technical liaison at key wafer fabrication partner sites. You will be Allegro’s eyes and ears inside the foundry, ensuring our proprietary semiconductor processes are executed to the highest standards. This high-visibility role blends deep process engineering knowledge with strategic supplier management.

What You'll Do

  • Serve as the primary point of contact between Allegro’s internal Quality/Product Engineering teams and the foundry’s process engineers.

  • Monitor daily line health and wafer sort yields; lead root-cause analysis for yield excursions or process deviations using SPC data.

  • Audit foundry process flows for Allegro-specific technologies (BCD, High Voltage, TMR); ensure adherence to Process Control Plans (PCP) and Quality Agreements.

  • Support New Product Introduction (NPI): transfer of new products to high-volume manufacturing and coordinate fabrication of engineering samples and hot lots.

  • In the event of a manufacturing issue, lead a task force to identify the source, contain affected material, and implement corrective actions (8D reports).

  • Identify opportunities for cycle-time reduction, cost-saving process tweaks, and yield optimization without compromising device performance or reliability.

  • What We're Looking For

  • B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or Physics.

  • 5–10 years of hands-on experience in a semiconductor wafer fab environment (Process Engineering, Yield Engineering, or Integration).

  • Deep understanding of BCD (Bipolar-CMOS-DMOS) or Analog/Mixed-Signal process flows.

  • Proficiency in statistical analysis software (e.g., JMP, Minitab, or Spotfire).

  • Familiarity with failure analysis techniques (SEM, EDX, FIB).

  • Exceptional ability to communicate complex technical issues to internal executives and external foundry partners.

  • A “resident” mentality—you are comfortable working autonomously at a partner site while remaining deeply connected to Allegro’s corporate goals and values.

  • Nice to Have

  • Compensation & Benefits

  • Anticipated starting base salary between $115,000 and $170,000 (USD). Actual starting pay will be determined based on relevant experience, qualifications, specialized skills, localized market conditions, and internal equity.
