About the role
We are seeking a Founding Research Engineer to join an AI infrastructure startup based in Bengaluru. In this role, you will own model quality, including selecting which open models to adapt, fine-tuning and reinforcement learning processes, and ensuring the models outperform frontier benchmarks on customer evaluations.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the adaptation and fine-tuning of language models.
- Develop and apply reinforcement learning techniques to improve model performance.
- Analyze and explain model evaluation results, including cases where a model that performs well on standard grading may still be suboptimal.
- Collaborate closely with a team of experienced engineers and researchers from top institutions and industry backgrounds.
Requirements:
- 3 to 6 years of hands-on experience fine-tuning language models.
- Strong understanding of model evaluation metrics and the ability to critically assess model quality beyond standard benchmarks.
- Experience working in AI research or infrastructure environments.
