About this role
Founding Public Sector Account Executive (SLED)
About the job
About the company (stealth)
We are a venture-backed technology company operating in stealth, building an AI platform for a large and underserved operational category. Our founding team previously raised $5M+, built products used by tens of millions of people, and is backed by prominent investors across media and technology.
We have a paying commercial customer and are finalizing our first state agency contract. This role is the next step.
The role
You'll be our first sales hire and own the public sector from day one. Our buyers are agencies that run programs for their employees, travel today and other categories over time, where a small office spends its days coordinating requests, approvals, and vendors for people who only need it a few times a year. You bring the public-sector experience and relationships to get us in front of those offices and take deals to signature.
Concretely:
- Build and run the public-sector pipeline, starting with state DOTs and the agencies that manage employee travel and purchasing
- Use your existing relationships and the associations these buyers belong to (NASPO, NIGP, SGTP) to open doors
- Run discovery and demos, and take deals through procurement to signature
- Navigate how each state buys: statewide contracts, cooperative purchasing, reseller paths, and small-purchase limits, and use that to shorten deals
- Tell us what government buyers need so it shapes what we build next
You
- 3+ years selling to state, local, or higher-education buyers, ideally at a procurement, finance, or travel-and-expense software company or a public-sector reseller (Pavilion, Euna, OpenGov, Jaggaer, Emburse, Carahsoft, SHI International, or similar)
- Closed government deals you can walk us through, including how they were contracted
- You know what NASPO, a statewide contract, and a p-card are without looking them up
- Curious about AI and able to explain what an agent does in plain English
- Scrappy: you'd rather build the playbook than inherit one
Nice to have
- Relationships at state travel, procurement, or transportation offices
- Experience with cooperative purchasing (NASPO ValuePoint, Sourcewell, OMNIA)
- Familiarity with public-sector security expectations like StateRAMP/GovRAMP
- Time at a seed or Series A startup
Why join
- First sales hire, with a clear path to leading public sector
- A paying customer and a first state agency, so you start with a reference rather than a blank slate
- Founders who sell alongside you rather than handing you a quota and disappearing
- Meaningful equity in a company going after a $750B+ market
