About the job
Founding Growth Designer at Jack
Design, copy, code. Own the funnel from ad to maintenance plan.
About Jack
Jack is the AI orchestration layer for the $1T home services industry.
Every home needs a steady stream of work, and getting it done is still phone tag, guesswork and no-shows. The pros are good. The mess around the work is the problem, and Jack removes it. Jack scopes a job with WalkThru, a live video walkthrough that prices work without a truck roll, gets bids from vetted pros, and coordinates the work until it’s done. Every home gets an Owner’s Manual, a living record of every system and appliance, so Jack knows what the house needs before the homeowner does.
The bigger shift is coming fast. Homeowners will hand their to-do lists to AI agents from the biggest tech companies, and those agents will need a way to get physical work done in the real world. Jack is the layer they call. Whoever owns that layer sits between roughly $48T of owner-occupied homes and the trades that keep them running.
We’re a small, funded team with real customers asking for real jobs every day. Now we need a lot more homeowners to find Jack, understand it in seconds, and say yes. We need someone who can design that, write it, build it and ship it. Fast.
The role
Homeowners find us through paid ads. They land on a page, put down a deposit, get an in-home inspection, and leave with a plan for their house and a maintenance plan to go with it. You own that path and the number that comes out the end of it: ad to maintenance plan.
You make everything people see and read before they become customers: the ad’s promise, the landing pages, the site, the emails and texts that follow. You design it, write it, build it, ship it, measure it, and change it next week.
You’re obsessed with the customer and every metric that measures first touch to credit card relentlessly optimizing to squeeze every ounce of juice there is.
What you’ll own
Landing pages and the site. You design, write and ship them to production yourself, in code, with coding agents doing the heavy lifting.
- The number. Ad to maintenance plan. You know where people drop, why, and what we try next. Testing. You run the testing calendar with our performance marketer: hypotheses, variants, readouts, next moves.
- Ads. You shape the creative so the promise in the ad is the promise on the page. You direct our creative production partner, or make the ads yourself if you’re faster.
- The words. Headlines, offers, emails, SMS.
- The funnel’s front end. Anything in the funnel that touches the product, you design and build with engineering.
How we work
We test on real traffic, not opinions. A page ships when it’s ready to teach us something, and the numbers decide what stays. Production ships daily.
Clear lines keep this fast:
- Founder and CEO: the final call on positioning, the offer and the big bets, which we shape together.
- You: the funnel itself. What it says, how it looks, how it works, and whether it converts.
- Our performance marketer: channels, targeting and spend. You share the number.
- Engineering: the product behind the funnel, and code review on anything that touches it.
Who you are
Must-haves
- You’ve designed pages that ran against paid traffic, and you can show the numbers. Live links, not just case studies.
- You write as well as you design. Words matter more than layout, and you know it.
- You build. You ship real front-end code to production with AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor or similar), and you understand how the product is built well enough to work with engineering as a peer.
- You have taste and you can defend it. Clean and credible beats clever. Homeowners are trusting us with their house.
- You’re a designer.
Strong signals
- You came up through direct-response or DTC, a growth team at a consumer company, or an agency doing conversion work.
- You’ve built your own funnels as a founder because nobody else was going to.
- You’ve worked at an early startup (roughly 2 to 50 people).
- Home services, marketplace or local-services experience.
What this isn’t
It isn’t a product design role with marketing on the side. If your portfolio is mostly app screens, this isn’t for you. It isn’t a production role either. We have production help. We need the person who decides what gets made and why. And it isn’t a brand-book job. Brand matters a lot here, and it gets measured in conversion.
The right person will end up shaping the product too. But the funnel comes first.
Your first 30 days
- Week 1: Learn the customer, the funnel and the numbers. Ship your first landing page change to production by Friday.
- Week 2: A testing calendar is running with our performance marketer, and your first test is live on paid traffic.
- Week 4: You’re presenting funnel numbers from what you shipped and proposing the next round of tests. You’ve built our landing page system in code: shared sections, components and the written rules our agents follow, so a new page ships in hours, not days.
- Day 60: Ad to maintenance plan is measurably better, and you can show which changes did it.
Details and how we hire
Reports to Zach Blank, founder and CEO.
Location
West Coast preferred / Remote US, Pacific hours.
Compensation: 160k to 180k base, plus equity.
How we hire: a call with a co-founder & COO, a call with the founder, then a paid half-day working session. You get our real funnel data and the live house-manager page, come back with a teardown and a ranked list of tests, then build and ship one of them live with whatever AI tools you use. We care more about how you decide than what you type. Finalists come to Portland to meet the team, and we’ll talk with people you’ve worked with. You get paid for the working session either way.
