About this role
AARP Foundation Litigation is the litigating unit of AARP Foundation. We work to end senior poverty by helping vulnerable older adults build economic opportunity and social connectedness, and we pursue cutting-edge impact litigation in federal and state courts nationwide to advance the rights and interests of people 50 and older. We are seeking a top-notch rising third-year law student or advanced-degree candidate to join us as a Foundation Litigation Intern for Summer 2027 in Washington, DC. This is a paid internship with an anticipated start date in Summer 2027. The position is typically full-time, 40 hours per week, for 10–12 weeks (June–August), with hybrid work arrangements.
Responsibilities
- Work under the supervision of AARP Foundation attorneys
- Conduct legal research and draft memoranda, pleadings, briefs, and other legal documents
- Assist in civil discovery
- Interview current and potential clients
- Work with outside co-counsel
- Participate in litigation strategy
Requirements
- Rising third-year or advanced-degree law student (e.g., J.D. at start of internship in Summer 2027, or an LL.M.)

- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency with WESTLAW and other legal research platforms
- Significant experience with The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation
- Demonstrated public interest/public service experience
- Ability to work effectively in an in-office/open-office environment with moderate noise

- Internships are full-time (40 hours/week) and non-exempt; compensation is $21.00 per hour
- Hybrid work environment with remote work on Mondays and Fridays, within the United States and its territories, for essential functions
