About this role
AARP Foundation Litigation offers a Foundation Litigation Fellow position for Fall 2027 for a 12-month, full-time experience in Washington, DC. The fellowship, conducted through AARP Foundation Litigation—our public-interest law firm focused on aging and social justice—engages a top-tier law student in meaningful, systemic litigation work aimed at ending senior poverty. The fellowship starts in September 2027 and runs for 12 months, with a 40-hour workweek. The position is non-exempt with an hourly rate of $30.0 and does not include employee benefits. The role supports the Foundation’s mission to advance equity and economic opportunity for people over 50 through legal advocacy and strategic litigation in federal and state courts.
Responsibilities
- Conduct legal research
- Draft memoranda, pleadings, briefs, and other legal documents
- Assist in civil discovery
- Interview current and potential clients
- Work with outside co-counsel
- Participate in litigation strategy
Requirements
- Law student graduating in 2027
- Applications should include a single document with resume, cover letter, and a writing sample
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency with WESTLAW and other legal research platforms
- Significant experience with The Blue Book: A Uniform System of Citation
- Demonstrated public interest/public service experience
- AARP will not sponsor an employment visa for this position
- Regular and reliable attendance; ability to maintain professional relationships
- Independent judgment in evaluating options to make sound decisions
- Ability to work in an in-office/open-office environment with moderate noise
- Hybrid work environment: Mondays and Fridays are remote workdays within the United States and its territories, except for essential functions
