Job Description

A food service associate or a food service worker will prepare, heat and finish cooking food for customers. A food service associate will work at the food counters, help with preparing food and cleaning the facility. Some of their duties include serving customers, cleaning tables and cleaning kitchen areas.

About the Role

The dining facility is open 7 days a week during the school year and provides breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Those applying must understand that work hours may include early mornings, late evenings and weekends. Performs food service work involving preparing, portioning, distributing, and serving food and beverages; cleaning equipment and work areas; maintaining inventories; and receiving and issuing supplies. Qualifications and Required Skills:

  • Experience in food service work
  • Impeccable customer service skills
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Cleaning and sanitization skills
  • Food and beverage safety skills or the ability to learn about food and beverage safety (Food handlers’ card will be required)
  • Ability to multitask and organizational skills.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of food preparation methods, food storage and preservation, and sanitation regulations
  • Demonstrate understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff.
  • Learn to operate food services equipment/appliances.
  • Observe safety requirements and safe work practices and methods as required.
  • Work independently and under minimal supervision.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist cooks in the preparation of serving hot or cold food, heat, pan, and arrange food items,
  • Ensure that dining, service, and food preparation areas are maintained and clean and that food preparation equipment is properly cleaned and sanitized;
  • Stores food in designated containers and storage areas to prevent spoilage;
  • Receives deliveries of food and supplies from vendors;
  • Maintains and refills supplies of condiments and similar items as needed;
  • Prepare, maintain, and distribute required records and reports.
  • Monitor food distribution and ensure that meals are properly delivered and served based on correct portions and substitutions.
  • Inspect food items for quantity, quality and temperature conditions
  • Participate in taking and recording of temperatures of food and food storage areas
  • Use a variety of kitchen equipment and utensils in preparation of baked goods, main dishes, soups, pasta, meats, fruits and vegetables, desserts, sandwiches and other items.
  • Serve meals on serving lines; set out prepared foods; replenish containers as necessary; assist with setting up dining facility, assist with catering activities;
  • Ensure that both service and leftover food are stored in safe and sanitary condition.
  • Provide support in all areas of food service.
  • May deliver supplies/food in food service vehicle
  • This position requires the ability to stoop, kneel, reach, push, pull, grasp, and perform repetitive motions;
  • May be required to lift or move boxes in excess of 30 lbs
  • Maintain adequate supplies of dishes, cups, flatware, etc., when the dining facility is open.
  • May be required to operate cash register, receive cash, and view meal cards.
