About this role

Food Safety Risk Manager III – Sanitation

This role sits on Amazon's North American Food Safety Team and leads the Sanitation program across our Distribution and Retail/Grocery Fulfillment network, driving food safety compliance and protecting operations through preventive controls. The successful candidate will develop risk-based sanitation standards, scopes of work, and training aligned to FDA codes and state regulations, while managing janitorial vendor performance in partnership with procurement and leading cross-functional initiatives with Site Ops and Finance. Leveraging metrics, analytics, and third-party expertise, you'll continuously elevate sanitation standards and translate program health into clear, actionable business reviews.

Key job responsibilities

  • Develop, enhance, and implement risk-based sanitation scopes of work (SOW), standards, and standard work protocols tailored to each business type across our network, ensuring alignment with FDA codes, state regulations, and industry
  • Design, implement, and evaluate comprehensive sanitation and sanitation-related training materials across the network to drive consistent execution at the site level
  • Enhance janitorial vendor capabilities through upgraded contracts, SOW requirements, and performance monitoring; partner with procurement teams to manage the sanitation portfolio and vendor performance
  • Proactively identify opportunities for leveraging external expertise, then source, manage, and collaborate with third-party consultants and innovation partners for validations, benchmarking, and automation pilots to continuously improve the sanitation program
  • Establish and maintain a robust set of sanitation program metrics and KPIs to measure performance, track progress, and feed leading indicators into predictive modeling
  • Lead cross-functional teams to implement sanitation initiatives ensuring seamless integration with existing operational processes and systems
  • Compose and edit detailed business review documents to effectively communicate sanitation program health, de-escalation paths, and continuous improvement initiatives

A day in the life

In this role, you will be elevating sanitation and food safety compliance standards across Amazon's network of Distribution and Retail/Grocery Fulfillment sites. Your typical day will blend strategic planning with hands-on program development — building sanitation schedules and scopes of work, aligning Site Ops, Procurement, Finance, and janitorial vendors, and reviewing vendor performance against audit and pest-risk signals. You'll analyze compliance trends, conduct program assessments, and collaborate with third-party experts and innovation partners to continuously enhance our processes. This fast-paced role requires a balance of strategic thinking and analytical skills.
