Job title: Fleet Mechanic
About the Role Under general direction, performs a variety of highly skilled diagnostics, maintenance, repairs, and preventative maintenance on a diverse fleet of municipal equipment. Ensures fleet reliability, safety, and regulatory compliance.
What You'll Do
- Perform preventive maintenance and routine service on City vehicles and equipment, including cars, trucks, motor graders, tractors, mowers, golf carts, and other equipment.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic system failures; inspect components to determine root causes; utilize diagnostic software, testing equipment, wiring diagrams, and repair manuals.
- Replace defective parts and verify repairs through operational testing to ensure safety and reliability; assist in training new teammates and contractors; weld and fabricate materials using acetylene or plasma torch.
- Install and maintain police vehicle equipment such as light bars, radios, docking stations, etc.; track time and materials for work orders; ensure repairs are complete and billed appropriately.
- Travel to work sites to test and repair systems on equipment or vehicles; maintain safe work practices; report unsafe conditions to a supervisor.
- Develop and maintain effective customer relationships; maintain shop cleanliness and proper tool/equipment maintenance.
What We're Looking For
- High school diploma or GED; five (5) years of mechanical experience, with two (2) years of mechanical training preferred.
- Knowledge of maintenance and repair of city vehicles and equipment; ability to repair heavy equipment and gas/diesel vehicles at a highly skilled level.
- ASE Certifications in at least four (4) categories; Automotive, Truck, and Hydraulics preferred.
- Current Colorado Class A or B Commercial Driver's license preferred or obtainable within 90 days; must have acceptable driving record.
- Physical requirements: ability to reach, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; lift 40 pounds frequently and 75 pounds occasionally; exposure to outside elements and inclement weather.
- Background check and drug screen required.
Nice to Have
- Additional ASE certifications in other categories or specialized tasks.
- Experience installing police vehicle equipment and related hardware.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $61,000 per year for an onsite full-time role.
