About this role

Fixed Asset Manager

We are looking for an experienced Fixed Asset Manager to provide hands-on accounting support for a high-volume property accounting function. This Contract opportunity is suited for someone who is detail oriented and can step in quickly, manage daily fixed asset activities with minimal direction, and help maintain operational continuity across the full asset lifecycle. The role supports a fast-paced, process-driven environment and requires strong judgment, accuracy, and the ability to work effectively across accounting and operational teams.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the accounting treatment of capital assets from initial setup through final retirement, ensuring transactions are recorded accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Review and record additions, transfers, and capitalizations related to newly acquired assets and ongoing asset projects.
  • Execute recurring depreciation and amortization processes while validating supporting data and resolving discrepancies.
  • Perform monthly and ad hoc reconciliations for fixed asset accounts, including detailed analysis of complex balance fluctuations.
  • Allocate project-related costs appropriately and maintain accounting support for capital projects and associated asset records.
  • Partner with field and operations personnel to address asset requests, clarify project details, and support capital accounting needs.
  • Manage work orders and work breakdown structure elements used to monitor, classify, and assign project costs.
  • Prepare accounting entries and documentation tied to asset disposals, retirements, and other lifecycle events.
  • Help sustain day-to-day fixed asset accounting coverage during a period of limited team capacity and shifting resource demands.

Qualifications

  • Strong background in fixed asset accounting within a structured accounting environment.
  • Proven experience handling asset activity across acquisition, capitalization, depreciation, reconciliation, and retirement.
  • Ability to complete both standard monthly reconciliations and more advanced account analysis independently.
  • Proficiency with fixed asset systems and enterprise accounting platforms; experience with PowerPlan is highly desirable.
  • Advanced Excel skills with the ability to organize, analyze, and validate large volumes of financial data.
  • Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and commitment to accurate financial reporting.
  • Ability to adapt quickly, manage competing priorities, and contribute effectively with minimal ramp-up time.
  • Experience in utility, energy, or other asset-intensive industries is preferred but not required.
