About the Role
Join UC as a Fire Alarm Technician responsible for installing, supporting, monitoring, maintaining, repairing and testing university fire alarm systems across campus. What You'll Do
- Install, repair, replace, service and test various types of fire system components in accordance with applicable codes, standards and policies.
- Perform component-level repairs or modifications; may fabricate parts.
- Monitor systems, troubleshoot problems and make repairs or refer issues to the appropriate party.
- Inspect equipment; perform preventive maintenance and document maintenance activities.
- Monitor parts inventory and request additional parts.
- Perform preventive maintenance and service on campus fire alarm systems and document activities.
- Act as emergency responder liaison during non-business hours and campus emergencies; designated as Essential Personnel and may work nights, weekends, holidays, and emergency closures.
- Work a 10-hour shift/4 days per week; rotate between day and night shifts (0630–0200) and on-call.
- May be required to work large-scale campus events (e.g., commencements or athletic events).
- Perform related duties based on departmental need. What We're Looking For
- Vocational or technical training or degree in electrical technology or related field; two years of relevant work experience can substitute.
- Must have a current valid state operator’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Must obtain/possess a current Ohio Fire License within one year of employment.
- Must pass a complete background check and polygraph examination.
- At least two years of experience in maintenance and repair of fire alarm systems.
- Ability to understand and interpret NFPA 72 and Ohio Fire Code.
- Ability to safely and effectively use general hand tools.
- Physical ability to sit, stand, climb, and lift up to 50 pounds; ability to work outdoors and in restricted or high-traffic areas.
- Willingness to work nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime; on-call as required. Nice to Have
