Job title: Financial Accountant (Compliance & Controls)

About the Role As a Financial Accountant (Compliance & Controls) at Johnson Matthey, you’ll own statutory and legal financial reporting for the Pilar site, lead balance sheet and P&L reviews, and help design and monitor plant-level financial controls. You’ll work with cross-functional teams, support external audits, and partner with Sector Finance on tax, policy and compliance to enable a sustainable future.

What You'll Do

• Own statutory and legal financial reporting for the site, including preparation and sign-off of statutory accounts and financial accounting packs.
• Deliver accurate P&L and balance sheet reporting, working closely with Plant Management Accountants and Accounting Services to ensure data integrity.
• Lead monthly balance sheet and P&L reviews, ensuring compliance with IFRS, internal policies and control requirements.
• Manage external audit and statutory close processes, acting as primary contact for auditors and third-party queries.
• Design, implement and monitor plant-level financial controls, identify risks and drive remediation actions.
• Partner with Sector Finance teams on tax, treasury, accounting policy and wider compliance matters, including ad-hoc improvement projects.

What We're Looking For

• Proven experience leading financial controls, compliance and risk management activities.
• Ability to work collaboratively across finance and non-finance teams.
• Strong technical accounting expertise; professional accounting qualification (ACA, CIMA or equivalent) – nice to have.
• In-depth knowledge of IFRS and experience applying standards within a complex or global organisation.
• Strong communication skills with a high level of written and spoken English.
• Structured, delivery-focused approach with the ability to manage multiple priorities under time pressure.

Nice to Have

• Professional accounting qualification (ACA, CIMA or equivalent) – nice to have.
• Additional experience with tax, treasury, or wider compliance matters.
