New Foundation for Displaced Persons (NFDP) is a non-governmental organization established under the Nigeria law dedicated to providing crucial support to individuals displaced by insurgency and crises to survival, recover and rebuild their lives.
We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Finance Officer
Location: Borno
Role Purpose
- The Finance Officer will be responsible for day-to-day financial operations, ensuring accurate bookkeeping, budget control, full compliance with organizational and donor policies, and timely financial reporting to support effective programme delivery in Borno and Yobe States.
Key Areas of Accountabilities
Financial Accounting & Bookkeeping:
- Maintain accurate books of accounts in approved accounting software.
- Process all payments, post journal entries, and ensure correct budget coding.
- Manage cash and bank transactions, including monthly bank reconciliation.
- Maintain and reconcile cashbooks, ledgers, and financial filing system.
- Manage petty cash, ensuring daily cash count and reconciliation.
Budgeting & Financial Control:
- Support programme team in budget preparation, realignment, and forecasting.
- Prepare monthly Budget vs Actual (BvA) analysis and share variance reports with management.
- Monitor expenditure to ensure it remains within approved budgets.
- Ensure value for money and cost-effectiveness in all transactions.
Donor Compliance & Reporting:
- Ensure full compliance with organizational financial manual, donor regulations (NHF, NFF, etc.), and Nigerian financial laws.
- Prepare donor financial reports, monthly management accounts, and quarterly reports.
- Ensure all supporting documents are complete, authentic, and audit-ready.
- Support internal and external audits, donor verifications, and spot checks.
- Track staff and activity advances and ensure timely liquidation and retirement.
Procurement & Operations Support:
- Review procurement requests for budget availability and policy compliance.
- Participate in procurement committee processes and ensure procedures are followed.
- Verify vendor invoices, contracts, and payments before processing.
- Ensure timely deduction and remittance of applicable taxes (VAT, WHT, PAYE, Pension).
Staff & Capacity Support:
- Orient field and programme staff on finance procedures and retirement templates.
- Support payroll preparation and statutory remittances.
- Build capacity of programme staff on budget literacy and compliance requirements.
Field & Consortium Support:
- Support financial coordination with consortium partners where applicable.
- Conduct field visits to other locations to support field finance and compliance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree/HND in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field.
- Professional qualification (ICAN/ANAN) is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience as Finance Officer in NGO / Humanitarian sector.
- Proven experience with NHF, NFF, or other international donor financial requirements.
- Experience working in Borno context is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks) and Advanced MS Excel.
- Strong knowledge of Nigerian tax laws, NGO compliance, and audit processes.
