About this role

**About Throne

Throne is a fast growing Series C startup transforming local communities by delivering clean, safe, accessible restrooms to cities, transit agencies, and public spaces. With flagship customers in Los Angeles, the San Francisco Bay Area, Ann Arbor, and Washington DC, and recent launches in New York City, Atlanta, and Seattle, we're rapidly scaling into new markets in 2027 and beyond.

We recognize an unspoken problem: that better bathroom accommodations are sorely needed in most cities. Public and retail bathrooms are neither positioned to meet demand, nor incentivized to provide the quality experience people deserve.

Our mission is to provide peace of mind to the millions of people who set out on an adventure on any given day. That adventure may be big or small. It may involve taking your toddler to the park, driving a stranger to the airport, running a half marathon, or exploring a new city for the first time.

About the Job

Throne is looking for a full-time, hourly Field Technician Shift Lead to join our team, reporting to the Operations Manager. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient, safe, and high-quality delivery of field service operations during your shifts. You will lead shifts for a team of Field Technicians and Pump Truck Drivers, coordinate daily schedules, and serve as the first point of contact for escalations in the field. This is a working-lead role: the Shift Lead directs day-to-day work and coaches the team but does not have hiring, termination, or disciplinary authority. Performance and conduct concerns are escalated to the Operations Manager. This role is perfect for a hands-on leader who thrives on coaching others, optimizing processes, and ensuring our Thrones remain clean, safe, and operational for the communities we serve.

This role combines desk-based planning with frequent field visits across Los Angeles. Must be able to regularly lift up to 50 lbs, bend, kneel, and work in outdoor urban environments to support teams.

This is a full-time, hourly position requiring availability for shift work. The person hired for this position must have the flexibility to work evening, early morning shifts, and some weekends. Participation in an on-call rotation for major escalations may be required, paid in accordance with applicable state and federal laws and Throne’s on-call policy.

New hires in this role start at $34.00 per hour. The full range for this position is $34.00 - $38.00 per hour, with placement based on experience and tenure. Full-time roles are also eligible for a comprehensive benefits package, including stock options.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of Field Service Technicians (Level I–III) and Pump Truck Drivers during assigned shifts.
  • Operational Coordination: Plan, assign, and dispatch daily work orders and preventive maintenance routes to meet service level agreements (SLAs) and optimize team efficiency.
  • Field Support & Escalation: Serve as the first point of contact for technicians and drivers requiring on-site support or complex troubleshooting. Personally respond to or coordinate resolution for high-priority service calls. Escalate performance, conduct, and policy concerns to the Operations Manager.
  • Quality Assurance & Safety: Conduct random field audits of completed work, ensuring repairs and maintenance meet quality and safety standards. Ensure adherence to all company safety policies, including proper use of PPE and tool handling, and promptly escalate violations to the Operations Manager.
  • Training & Development: Assist in the onboarding of new team members and provide ongoing coaching to develop team skills in plumbing, electrical, waste systems, pump truck operations, etc.
  • Team Performance: Monitor team performance metrics, including jobs completed, first-time fix rate, and parts usage. Provide constructive feedback and share shift-level observations with the Operations Manager as input to employee performance reviews.
  • Inventory & Logistics: Oversee the van inventory system for your shift, ensuring technicians have the correct parts and tools. Coordinate with the warehouse for restocking and manage critical part usage. Ensure accurate inventory counts. Ensure vehicle and tool checklists are complete at beginning and end of shift.
  • Reporting & Communication: Maintain accurate records for your shift. Communicate effectively between field technicians, the Operations Manager, and cross-functional teams (Engineering, Central Tech Ops), providing vital field insights to drive product and process improvements.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 1+ years of experience in a team lead role, crew lead, or similar role, preferably in field service, facilities maintenance, plumbing, or a related environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in dispatching and coaching a deskless workforce.
  • Strong technical foundation with the ability to understand, diagnose, and advise on plumbing, mechanical, and basic electrical systems. Hands-on experience is a plus.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills, especially under pressure.
  • Proven ability to coach, motivate, and hold a team accountable to high standards of work and safety.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with mobile workforce applications and Google Workspace/Slack.
  • Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
  • Must be comfortable with the nature of the business, supporting teams that work with human waste systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Direct hands-on experience as a plumber, electrician, or HVAC/R technician.
  • Experience in the portable sanitation, RV service, or wastewater industry.
  • Formal training in leadership or project management.
  • Familiarity with OSHA regulations, particularly for field operations.
  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or willingness to obtain one.

Benefits:

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance, with medical options that are 100% employer-paid
  • Equity for all US-based positions, so you share in Throne’s growth
  • $30/month cell phone stipend
  • Company vehicle provided for business use
  • Daily access to earned wages
  • 401(k) plan
  • Paid time off that grows with tenure, in addition to paid sick time and paid parental leave
  • Life insurance, AD&D coverage, and short and long-term disability insurance
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) Benefits offered to full-time and part-time employees may vary by State.
