About the Role A Field Service Engineer works independently or with more experienced engineers in performing inspections, tuning, operational audits, pre-commissioning testing on boilers and environmental equipment, and writes estimates and proposals. This position requires extensive travel (90%) including driving on client/customer property. Field Service is a fast-paced role with great variety and a steep learning curve as the engineer develops practical knowledge of power plants and B&W products. What You'll Do
- Collect field data and evaluate it
- Work with customers, account executives, vendors and sublet vendors with assistance and guidance from District Engineer or senior engineer
- Prepare technical reports including service and special reports
- Work as part of commissioning teams on project startups
- Perform site activities including boiler inspections, condition assessments and boiler operation evaluations
- Provide construction technical support and outage management
- Work on estimates and proposals for equipment upgrades What We're Looking For
- Education: High School Diploma or GED, Vocational/Technical, or Associate's Degree minimum requirement, or 8+ years of experience
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills
- Good communication skills
- Ability and desire to travel
- Decision making or problem solving authority with little to no supervisory review
- Assess equipment needs at a customer site, conduct walk downs and inspections of functioning equipment
- Troubleshoot malfunctioning equipment at a customer site
- Domestic travel required 90% of time
