About the Role Field Engineer is part of the Motorola Solutions Field Engineering T8 North team and is responsible for post-sale installation, optimization, maintenance and management of mission-critical communication systems. This role focuses on proactive performance monitoring, responding to system alarms, advanced troubleshooting, and documenting technical solutions to support continued system availability. What You'll Do
- Perform installation, optimization, and maintenance on public safety systems including VHF, UHF, and 700/800 MHz radio systems, 911/ECW/NG911 infrastructure, and NICE public safety logging systems.
- Execute preventative maintenance routines with trend analysis and thorough documentation to ensure proper operation.
- Develop technical solutions for complex problems during system implementation, upgrades, or support activities.
- Apply extensive knowledge of transport, communications, and RF technologies; collaborate with System Managers, Engineering, Project Management, Sales, System Technologists, and partners to design and cut-over advanced systems.
- Provide advanced technical support for specialized systems and product applications with focus on RF and broadband performance.
- Program, configure, optimize, test, and document complex communications systems.
- Develop and implement solutions for difficult technical challenges encountered during system work; submit weekly reports detailing activities and accomplishments. What We're Looking For
- Education/Certification: Associate’s Degree or equivalent (EET, technical certification, project management certification, IT certification or military technical certification) is required. CET required within 6 months of hire. FCC license and industry certifications are a plus.
- Technical Expertise: knowledge of RF systems (transmitters, receivers, antennas), proficiency with communications test equipment; strong working knowledge of P25 and trunking/SmartZone; familiarity with LAN/WAN, wired/wireless networks; ability to install/configure network equipment, servers and related hardware; experience with NICE public safety loggers and standard telephony/dedicated data circuits/packet switching.
- Experience: experience with P25 systems, NICE loggers, LMR RF systems, wired/wireless networks, IT networks; experience configuring and testing Motorola two-way radio and subscriber products; proficiency with optimization and testing equipment (e.g., analyzers, watt meters, TIMS, CPS, antenna analyzers, T1 test sets).
- Skills: strong problem-solving and documentation capabilities; high computer literacy including Google Suite and Microsoft Office. Nice to Have
- FCC license and industry certifications are a plus.
- Familiarity with NICE public safety logging systems and other related Motorola products.
