About the Role The Field Engineer is responsible for the implementation of complex communications system infrastructure and technical support of specialized sub-systems and product applications, including RF/broadband and legacy analog to P25 and data networks. This is a remote position with travel (50-75%) to support projects within the territory (OH, WI, MI, MN, SD, ND). The candidates must reside in or be open to relocation to OH. What You'll Do
- Collaborate with Systems Engineering, Project Management, and Sales to design, implement, optimize, test, cutover, and document advanced communications systems that meet or exceed customer expectations.
- Provide weekly reports of activities and accomplishments. Utilize system design drawings, planners, and product documentation to oversee onsite installation of network, server, and RF equipment; provide as-built information for the final system documentation package.
- Utilize network design tools, formalized process documents, and customer input to perform onsite and remote configuration of network, server, RF, and databases; provide as-configured documentation and baseline reports.
- Use system logs and tools to perform onsite and remote troubleshooting of networks, servers, databases, and RF infrastructure; verify logs and event monitoring applications are clear of faults; perform acceptance testing and correct any deficiencies; provide accepted test results for the final system documentation package.
- Utilize product specifications, FCC license data, and design parameters to perform performance verification/optimization of advanced digital and legacy analog RF infrastructure; provide baseline measurement data and test results for the final package.
- Design/develop solutions to difficult technical issues encountered as part of system implementation, upgrades, or support; perform preventative maintenance with trend analysis and documentation of results.
- Perform preventative maintenance routines to ensure proper system operation with a focus on trend analysis and documentation of results. What We're Looking For
- Unique combinations of multi-site RF communications systems and computer/networking skills; strong knowledge of LAN/WAN IP networks; proficient in computer network installation, configuration, and maintenance of systems including cabling, routers, switches, and firewalls (HP and Juniper).
- Experience with installation, administration, and troubleshooting of: Server Virtualization (VMware ESXi 6+ and/or Microsoft Hyper-V 2012+); Windows Server 2008 R2, 2012 R2, 2019; Workstations (Windows 7 & 10).
- Knowledge of secure products/protocols (KMF, KVL, AES) and RF systems (transmitters, receivers, filters, antenna networks).
- Demonstrated systems experience with relevant equipment; knowledge of standard telephony and dedicated data circuits, and packet-switching techniques.
- Experience with logging/recording systems; skilled with testing equipment including S412E LMR Master, Viavi 3920B, Anritsu 9090A, VeeX MTX150, T-BERD 5800T1, and TIMS.
- Highly computer literate (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and Google G-Suite; strong self-management and interpersonal skills to work with customers and cross-functional teams; able to operate with minimal supervision and work remotely.
- Willingness to travel 50-75% and reside in OH or relocate to OH.
- Basic Requirements: Associate's Degree in a technical or engineering discipline and 4+ years of technical/engineering experience OR 6+ years of technical/engineering experience. Nice to Have
- Experience supporting Government/Public Safety customers or P25-based environments; knowledge of RF/IT integration in mission-critical networks. Compensation & Benefits
- Target Base Salary Range: $60,000 - $80,000 USD per year. Remote position with travel (50-75%). Actual offer based on knowledge, skills, and experience.
