About this role

Field and Design Engineer

Description

  • Are you an experienced engineer who thrives on turning blueprints into operational buildings? Amazon's logistics network is growing, and we are taking on design and execution responsibilities for creating additional logistics facilities to deliver a better experience for customers. As a Field and Design Engineer on the Logistics Engineering team, you will lead the physical launch and modification of operations buildings, owning facility layout design, construction project management, and material handling equipment qualification.

  • You will plan and execute construction milestones and budgets for new site launches and existing site modifications, coordinating across internal and external stakeholders. This is a hands-on role where you will simplify and optimize solutions, resolve system-level problems, and help shape the next generation of Amazon's logistics infrastructure.

  • Design and design engineering details in both English and Japanese describe leading field and design engineering efforts to implement new facilities and renovations, including facility layout design, construction project management, and equipment qualification, with responsibilities across design development, milestone planning, budget estimation, and schedule management to meet target launch dates. Feasibility studies, equipment qualification, and process improvements are used to design and optimize logistics facility layouts, remove bottlenecks, and increase operational efficiency. Coordination with construction vendors, integrators, operations teams, and partner engineering groups is required to validate designs, resolve technical gaps, and maintain project quality, cost, and schedule targets. Root-cause analysis and evaluation of trade-offs between time, quality, and resources are used to identify and resolve complex system and construction issues.

  • A day in the life

  • You will start your morning reviewing project dashboards and construction progress reports, then join alignment calls with vendors, facility operations managers, and construction site teams. Much of your time is spent on-site, walking construction zones to verify installation quality and troubleshoot equipment issues in real time. Back at your desk, you will update layout designs, refine budget forecasts, and prepare status updates for leadership. You will also collaborate with peer engineers to share lessons learned and mentor teammates on emerging tools and best practices.
