Job title: Farm Manager
Overview
The Farm Manager directs all agricultural activities on the oil palm plantation to maximize fresh fruit bunch (FFB) yields, maintain soil health, manage field labor, and ensure sustainable, profitable operations that feed into the processing mill.
Responsibilities

Plantation & Crop Management
-
Agronomic Operations: Oversee nursery management, land preparation, field planting, weeding, pruning, and palm census.

Fertilizer & Nutrition: Implement soil and leaf tissue testing recommendations, managing the application schedule for organic and inorganic fertilizers.

Pest & Disease Control: Monitor and manage pests (such as rhinoceros beetles and leaf miners) and diseases (such as basal stem rot) using Integrated Pest Management (IPM) protocols.

Harvesting Operations: Plan and supervise the timely harvesting of Fresh Fruit Bunches (FFB) at optimal ripeness to ensure high oil extraction rates (OER).

Supply Chain & Mill Coordination

FFB Transport: Coordinate logistics to transport harvested FFB quickly and efficiently from the plantation fields to the palm oil mill to prevent acidification and quality loss.

Inventory & Equipment: Manage the maintenance, fueling, and deployment of farm machinery (tractors, trailers, transport trucks, and weeding tools).

Workforce & Administrative Management

Labor Supervision: Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate field supervisors, harvesters, and general laborers.

HSE Compliance: Enforce Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) standards, including the mandatory use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) during spraying and harvesting.

Reporting & Budgeting: Prepare operational budgets, track expenditures, and submit weekly or monthly progress reports on yields, labor deployment, and crop health to executive management.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree or HND in General Agriculture, Agronomy, Crop Science, Forestry, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience in commercial agriculture, with proven, specialized experience managing oil palm plantations.
- Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of oil palm phenology, tropical agronomy, fertilizer regimens, and harvesting cycles.
- Soft Skills: Strong leadership, cross-departmental communication (coordinating directly with the Palm Oil Mill Factory Manager), and problem-solving abilities.
