About the Role Altru Family Medicine Residency educates physicians to practice full-scope, comprehensive medicine across diverse settings, with a strong focus on rural care. The program blends inpatient and outpatient training, obstetrics, sports medicine, and point-of-care ultrasound, and offers a fellowship in surgical obstetrics to expand opportunities beyond residency. What You'll Do
- Participate in the Strong Inpatient Care via the Family Practice Teaching Service, delivering patient care across a broad range of family medicine topics.
- Provide routine and high-volume obstetrical care, including high-risk pregnancy management.
- Rotate in rural communities in eastern North Dakota and northern Minnesota to support rural health.
- Experience extensive pediatrics opportunities, including inpatient unit, NICU, newborn nursery, emergency medicine, and outpatient clinics.
- Utilize six blocks of elective time to gain experience in areas of interest.
- Contribute to the Home Visit Program to care for patients unable to travel.
- Train in a state-of-the-art ultrasound lab delivering bedside imaging.
- Step into teaching roles alongside medical, pharmacy, and athletic training students, developing leadership and mentorship skills.
- Engage in resident wellness activities and work-life balance initiatives.
- Participate in monthly hands-on workshops to practice clinical skills (casting, IUD placement, ultrasound-guided injections, perineal repairs, toenail removal, FAST/RUSH/IVC ultrasound, vasectomy, colposcopy). What We're Looking For
