Key Responsibilities
- Turf Management:
- Mow, trim, and edge lawns and turf areas using a variety of equipment (mowers, trimmers, edgers).
- Apply fertilizer, pesticides, and herbicides in accordance with safety guidelines and regulations.
- Oversee irrigation systems, including monitoring, adjusting, and repairing sprinkler heads and lines, and winterizing sprinkler systems.
- Aerating, seeding, and sodding as needed to maintain healthy and lush turf.
- Landscaping and Horticulture:
- Plant, cultivate, and maintain flower beds, shrubs, trees, and other plant life.
- Prune and trim trees and shrubs to promote healthy growth and maintain a neat appearance.
- Remove weeds and debris from landscaped areas.
- Mulch beds and around trees and shrubs.
- Hardscape and General Maintenance:
- Maintain and repair walkways, paths, and parking lot surfaces.
- Clean and maintain outdoor furniture, benches, and other fixtures.
- Empty trash receptacles and manage recycling in outdoor areas.
- Pick up litter and debris to ensure the grounds are free of trash.
- Seasonal Tasks:
- Fall: Rake and blow leaves, and prepare grounds for winter.
- Winter: Perform snow and ice removal from walkways, entrances, and parking lots using shovels, snow blowers, and snowplows. Apply de-icing agents as needed to ensure safety.
- Spring: Prepare grounds for the growing season, including cleaning up winter debris, aerating, planting and watering.
- Equipment Operation and Maintenance:
- Operate and maintain a variety of groundskeeping and shop equipment, including mowers (riding and push), tractors, trimmers, edgers, blowers, chainsaws, snow blowers, and plows.
- Perform routine maintenance on equipment and MMU fleet vehicles such as checking fluids, sharpening blades, and cleaning.
- Report any equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs to the supervisor.
- Schedule fleet vehicle maintenance, repairs, and inspections.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Adhere to all safety protocols and use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
- Store and handle chemicals and fuels safely and in compliance with regulations.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Identify and report any safety hazards on the grounds.
- Other Duties as assigned:
- Be available for 24 hour ON-CALL basis, some night and weekend work.
- Work Overtime as required in campus emergencies, severe weather conditions, and special events.
- Complete work orders for your area to standard.
- Maintain proper records for your area, fill out work orders, conduct inventories of parts on hand, order parts needed, complete any specific reports for equipment in your area.
- Perform preventative maintenance and implement new PM’s to extend life cycle of assets, asset reliability, and reduce operational expenses.
- Supervise, train, and support student employees assigned to your area.
- Perform event set ups and office furniture moves.
- May perform all duties of a Facility Technician 1 and 2.
- Assist facilities staff or other tasks assigned by Director of Operations or Director of Facilities and Maintenance.
Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent

1-3 years of experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, or a related field

Valid drivers license

Knowledge and Skills:
-
Knowledge of plants, turf, and tree care best practices.

Ability to safely operate and perform basic maintenance on groundskeeping equipment.

Knowledge of safe chemical handling and application.

Familiarity with snow and ice removal techniques.

Strong attention to detail and a high standard for quality work.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and lift for extended periods.

Ability to lift and carry up to 100 pounds.

Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow).

Ability to perform physically demanding tasks.

Commercial fertilizer/herbicide applicator's license must be obtained.
