Job title: Facilities Manager
About the Role The Facilities Manager will lead the strategic planning, management, and maintenance of CFAO Mobility’s facilities in South Africa. You will ensure a safe, efficient, and productive working environment, lead a team of professionals, manage complex projects, and serve as the primary point of contact for facility-related matters to support the organization’s goals.
What You'll Do
- Strategic Facility Planning: Develop and implement long-term facility plans aligned with company objectives; conduct space planning and utilization studies; forecast future facility needs and recommend solutions.
- Operational Management: Oversee daily facility operations (maintenance, cleaning, security, utilities); implement and monitor KPIs; manage after-hours emergencies and disruptions.
- Maintenance and Repair: Develop and manage preventative maintenance schedules for all building and workshop systems; oversee reactive maintenance; use CMMS to track work orders.
- Project Management (Capital and Operational): Manage capital improvements (renovations, expansions, new construction); define scopes, budgets, and timelines; coordinate with engineers and contractors; manage office relocations and new equipment installations.
- Financial Management: Develop and manage annual facilities budget; analyze variances; negotiate contracts and manage vendor payments.
- Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE): Ensure OSH compliance; develop emergency plans and drills; manage hazardous materials and waste; oversee fire protection systems; conduct risk assessments.
- Technology Integration: Implement/building automation systems (BAS); use data analytics to optimize building performance and energy efficiency; stay updated on facility technologies.
- Stakeholder Communication: Serve as primary contact for facility inquiries; communicate with employees, vendors, and senior management; provide regular updates on operations and projects.
- Sustainability Initiatives: Implement programs to reduce energy, water, and waste; pursue green building certifications; promote sustainable practices.
- Security Management: Manage security systems (access control, CCTV, alarms); coordinate with security personnel and law enforcement; develop security protocols.
What We're Looking For
- Experience in strategic facility planning aligned with business objectives; ability to forecast and plan long-term needs.
- Strong operational management background in facilities, including maintenance, cleaning, security, and utilities.
- Proven experience with preventative maintenance programs and CMMS usage.
- Project management experience for capital and operational projects; budgeting and scheduling; stakeholder coordination.
- Financial management skills: budget development, variance analysis, cost-saving measures; contract negotiation.
- Knowledge of HSE regulations; ability to develop emergency plans, conduct drills, and perform risk assessments.
- Experience with building automation systems (BAS) and data-driven facility optimization; focus on energy efficiency.
- Excellent stakeholder communication skills; ability to liaise with employees, vendors, and senior management.
- Commitment to sustainability and green practices; familiarity with green building concepts.
- Ability to lead a team and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
Nice to Have
- Leadership experience in a manufacturing or workshop setting; experience in Africa or emerging markets.
- Familiarity with fire protection systems and hazardous materials management.
