Job title: Export Department Manager
About the Role Join JAS as the Export Department Manager for our Milan operations. You will manage and oversee the export department to ensure compliant and timely movement of freight by ocean and air, lead a team, and coordinate with vendors, authorities, and customers to support the company's logistics objectives.
What You'll Do
- Manage and oversee the export department to ensure the movement of freight via ocean and air, in accordance with policy and applicable laws.
- Maintain the business flow of the Export department and ensure compliance at all levels.
- Supervise staff and ensure usage of tools to achieve financial goals; oversee vendor relationships and 3rd party warehouses.
- Identify problems, analyze data, and implement solutions to improve efficiency and productivity.
- Communicate with export authorities, customers, suppliers across relevant countries to ensure lawful, positive relationships and timely activities.
- Collaborate with other departments to align export activities with organizational operations.
- Initiate and promote change to increase organizational effectiveness; make sound decisions based on analysis.
- Ensure staff training/resources and perform performance evaluations when necessary.
- Negotiate with local carriers on spot pricing and issue rate quotes; maintain TSA compliance for the branch.
- Prepare quotes for internal and external clients; participate in outside sales activities as needed.
- Maintain records on truckers, tariffs, and insurance certificates; coordinate documents with 3rd party warehouse and US Customs for export.
- Review service needs with SSL, ocean carriers, warehouse agents and truckers; monitor shipments for compliance and profitability.
- Audit export files for compliance and profitability; manage dangerous goods processing for Air Export.
- Escalate department concerns to upper management and handle other duties as requested.

- Education: High school diploma or GED; college diploma a plus.
- Minimum 7 years of export (air or ocean) and freight forwarding experience.
- Minimum 3 years supervisory experience.
- Knowledge of procedures for international and domestic freight, trucking and warehouse services.
