About the Role Zurich is seeking an Executive Underwriter or AVP, Underwriting Director – Construction Casualty to join our team in the Boston, MA or New York, NY office. This position offers a hybrid work arrangement, with the expectation to be in the office/market three days per week and to partner with your manager to set a flexible schedule that supports you, our customers, and our brokers and agents. The Construction Casualty Underwriter will focus on complex new and renewal accounts across Auto, GL, and Workers’ Compensation, with potential involvement in large project/wrap-up insurance programs.

What You'll Do

  • Serve as a customer industry advocate with a focus on improving the customer experience by understanding their risk and offering the best end-to-end solution for their insurance needs.
  • Use a disciplined approach to exposure evaluation, risk assessment and pricing.
  • Use risk insights, data and models to drive informed decisions at point of sale; market-facing and production within the growing Construction division.
  • Administer and monitor underwriting rules and guidelines, insurance laws and regulations and rating manual rules.
  • Work within broad limits and authority on complex assignments.

What We're Looking For

  • Basic Qualifications: High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area OR High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area OR Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area OR Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 8 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area AND Experience with Micros.
  • Strong analytical and relationship-building skills; ability to engage with agents/brokers and operate within underwriting authority.

Nice to Have

  • Construction casualty experience preferred; while ideal, Zurich will consider Senior Underwriter candidates who have a desire to expand their skillsets in the construction risk management space.
