About VC Backed Moms

VC Backed Moms is a global 501(c)(3) nonprofit on a mission to re-engineer the startup ecosystem for founders at every stage of motherhood. Our community includes more than 500 venture-backed founders who have collectively raised over $5B.

Being a venture-backed founder is hard. Being a mother is hard. Doing both at once, without people who understand, can feel impossible. Since 2021, we have built the community founder moms wish they had: candid peer support, in-person gatherings, and a louder voice in an ecosystem where most investors and LPs have never faced these tradeoffs themselves.

We started as a grassroots peer network. We became a formal nonprofit in 2024, and we have the backing of partners like SVB, Morrison Foerster, Venturous Counsel, Cooley, and many more. We're hiring an Executive Director to lead the next chapter.

The role

We need an Executive Director who brings both steadiness and burstiness. You will run the organization like a GM: you set priorities, manage the budget, keep programs on schedule, and follow through. You will also bring the creative spark: you spot the next big idea for our members and turn it into something real.

You will report to the Board of Directors and own the organization's strategy, fundraising, and vision. The board will be your partner and sounding board, not your project manager. We want a leader who sees what the organization could become and builds the plan to get there.

What you'll do

• Set the strategy. Define where VC Backed Moms goes next, write the multi-year plan, and turn it into clear annual goals the board can measure.

• Raise the money. Build and run a fundraising engine across corporate sponsors, VC firms, foundations, and individual donors. Grow the budget that powers our programs.

• Run the organization. Own the budget, operations, vendors, and any staff or contractors. Keep the trains on time and the books clean.

• Grow the community. Deepen value for our 500+ members through events, programming, and peer support. Bring in new founders while keeping the community trusted and close-knit.

• Be our voice. Represent VC Backed Moms with investors, partners, press, and policymakers. Make the case that supporting founder moms is good for the whole startup ecosystem.

• Partner with the board. Bring the board clear updates, hard questions, and fresh ideas before anyone asks for them.

• Who you are

• You've led before. You have a track record as an Executive Director, CEO, or GM, and you can point to results you drove.

• You drive without a script. You set strategy, raise money, and shape vision on your own. You don't wait for direction.

• You take initiative. You notice things others miss, you follow up without reminders, and you share ideas nobody asked for.

• You balance rhythm and spark. You can run a disciplined operating cadence and still make room for bold, creative bets.

• You know our world, or learn it fast. Experience with startups, venture capital, founders, or working parents is a strong plus.

• You work smart. You use AI and other modern tools to get more done with a lean team. This isn't a requirement, but we notice it.

## Our interview process

We keep the process to two stages so it respects your time.

• Screening conversation. You'll meet with Amelia from our board to talk about your background and what draws you to this role.
• Vision summary. If you move forward, we'll ask you to write a two-page executive summary of your vision for VC Backed Moms. We want to see how you think. You don't need to match the board's view, and we welcome a fresh take.
• In-depth interviews. You'll meet with board members Yana and Margot to dig into your vision, your experience, and how you lead.
