Job title: Executive Director, Research Oncology

About the Role The Executive Director, Oncology Research at Amgen will lead the discovery and development of novel therapeutics for solid tumors and hematologic malignancies. In this high-visibility role you will shape strategy, drive cutting-edge science, and inspire talent across a portfolio that supports patients worldwide.

What You'll Do

  • Lead a research team and portfolio of preclinical programs, driving activities to support clinical programs and external collaborations.
  • Drive discovery and development of novel therapeutics for solid tumors and hematologic malignancies, including leading large and small molecule programs from target discovery to clinical candidate selection, and supporting clinical/translational studies.
  • Shape strategy and inspire talent across the Oncology Research organization, fostering scientific leadership and talent development.
  • Apply deep knowledge of cancer biology, signaling pathways, tumor genetics/subtypes, and mechanisms of response/resistance to guide program decisions.
  • Integrate large-scale datasets, AI/ML, and translational insights into the portfolio to accelerate decisions.
  • Lead the co-creation of the next generation of ADC therapeutics and cultivate external partnerships.

What We're Looking For

  • Extensive experience in oncology drug development, with a track record of leading both large molecule and small molecule programs from target discovery/validation through clinical candidate selection and into development.
  • Deep and broad knowledge of cancer biology, including cell signaling, tumor genetics/subtypes, and mechanisms of response and resistance to therapies.
  • Ability to integrate large-scale human datasets, AI/ML, and translational insights into research strategy and portfolio management.
  • Strong leadership and talent development capabilities; proven ability to mentor and grow scientists at all levels.
  • Experience co-creating or leading ADC programs is a plus.

Nice to Have

  • ADC development experience or strong interest/expertise in antibody-drug conjugates.
  • Track record collaborating with clinical, translational, regulatory, and external partner teams.
