About this role
Executive Director of Academic Enrichment & Undergrdauate Programs
The CUNY School of Medicine (CUNY SOM), located on the campus of The City College of New York (CCNY), is the only medical school in the CUNY system. Its accelerated curriculum enables students to earn both a Bachelor of Science (BS) and Doctor of Medicine (MD) in seven years; the inaugural MD class graduated in 2020. CUNY SOM also offers a two-year Physician Assistant (PA) program. The school’s mission is twofold: (1) to provide medical and PA education to students from backgrounds historically underrepresented in medicine, with a commitment to primary care in underserved communities; and (2) to conduct innovative research in community health, health professions education, and biomedical science, translating findings into meaningful clinical impact.
The Executive Director provides strategic direction for a high-quality, inclusive educational environment for health professional students across CUNY SoM’s health professional pathway programs, from undergraduate education through degree completion. The position supports the academic success of students who may require additional assistance, including students with disabilities, students from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds, first-generation students, and veterans.
Reporting to the Senior Associate Dean for Clinical Curriculum and Assessment, the Executive Director will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
- Develop, implement, and evaluate holistic student academic support and retention programs, including medical school bridge programs.
- Monitor student academic performance and educational data to identify trends, assess outcomes, and recommend interventions.
- Co-chair the interdisciplinary Student At-Risk Committee and develop and monitor action plans for students experiencing academic difficulties.
- Serve as an ex-officio member of the Student Academic Progress Committee and participate in student progress, conduct, and other institutional committees as appropriate.
- Collaborate with Academic Affairs and the Curriculum Committee to review and update curriculum, academic policies, and student support processes.
- Advise students regarding academic planning, focus paths, schedules, electives, withdrawals, probation, and available resources.
- Assess student needs and coordinate with Wellness, Disability Services, Student Affairs, faculty, and department chairs to address barriers to academic success and student well-being.
- Partner with department chairs and faculty to address the academic needs of diverse student populations and promote an inclusive learning environment.
- Collaborate with the Office of Institutional Assessment to collect and analyze retention and educational data to support institutional planning and improvement.
- Provide leadership in strategic planning, continuous quality improvement, policy development, and initiatives that advance educational effectiveness; serve as a member of the Dean’s Cabinet and SoM leadership team.
- Represent CUNY SoM on relevant committees, councils, and projects; maintain confidentiality and compliance with FERPA, University policies, and the Student Code of Conduct.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Associate Dean
