About the Role The Executive Director, Global Business Development – Transactions leads deal-making for oncology opportunities, pursuing licensing, acquisitions, co-development and other structures to enhance the pipeline. The role requires strong business acumen and a proven track record in closing deals across multiple counterparties, with the ability to coordinate cross-functional teams and engage senior leaders across geographies. This position is the primary BD transaction lead for the Oncology Business Unit/R&D, overseeing opportunities across a range of categories and interacting with senior leadership and potential partners. What You'll Do
- Execute assigned transactions through proposal/review/negotiation of NBTS and Definitive Agreements, acting as Lead for many opportunities as assigned by the Vice President Global Business Development.
- Work with key Functional Area Leads (R&D Finance, R&D Global Project Team Leader, Legal, etc.) and Senior Management to secure alignment on key terms prior to and during active negotiations.
- Communicate activities across the organization through internal approval committees, sharing key contract terms and the strategic, financial, scientific and commercial rationale for each opportunity.
- Respond to Q&A from Corporate Finance, Tokyo Business Development, Oncology Global Oncology Marketing, OBU, R&D, Corporate Business Management, Senior Management, and other key stakeholders.
- Meet with other pharmaceutical licensing groups, participate in industry meetings, conduct proactive product searches, and coordinate search efforts to identify new opportunities to enhance the pipeline.
- Coordinate with colleagues from Search and Evaluation and with commercial, R&D, finance, supply chain, IP, legal, etc., on preliminary and full assessments of potential opportunities, and summarize conclusions and recommendations for senior management.
- Schedule and lead diligence meetings with potential partners.
- Provide strategic alliance management for deals to monitor compliance and re-negotiate if necessary.
- Ensure functional excellence by training and developing junior staff and Direct Report(s). What We're Looking For
- Strong business acumen with extensive experience in the life sciences/biopharmaceutical industry, particularly Oncology.
- Expertise and prior experience in the deal making process, evidenced by a comprehensive deal sheet indicating prior successful deal leadership to closing across the range of counterparties/collaboration partners encountered by the Daiichi Sankyo Transactions team.
- Ability to interact with senior leadership within R&D as well as CEOs, heads of R&D, etc., and to coordinate across functions, geographies, and external partners.
- Education: MBA with a strong finance focus preferred; Master’s Degree (Engineering Management or Finance) with relevant experience preferred; PhD preferred; MD preferred. Nice to Have
