Job title: Events Manager, Athletics

About the Role The Events Manager, Athletics at the University of Delaware is a key member of the Athletics & Recreation department. Under the general direction of the Assistant Athletic Director, Event Operations and Guest Services, this role manages a wide range of events—approximately 350 annually—including Varsity competitions, club sports, intramurals, external and internal events—while overseeing game-day operations and facility readiness.

What You'll Do

  • Plan and manage all aspects of athletic and related events from start to finish, including staffing plans and coordination across units within athletics, the University, and external clients.
  • Organize planning meetings with custodial, grounds, electric, electronics, plumbing, UDPD, CSC, LAZ, UDECU/EMS and other stakeholders; prepare and distribute pre-event sheets.
  • Track equipment and assets; determine inventory needs and arrange rental or purchase as needed.
  • Conduct pre-event facility checks and report maintenance issues; ensure facilities are set up and ready per the calendar.
  • Manage client requests and expectations; communicate changes to department and University staff.
  • Oversee event breakdown, cleanup, and post-event notes; gather information for groups involved.
  • Track, input, and report all event expenses to the Business Office for invoicing.
  • Provide secondary support for athletic competitions and other events as needed.
  • Assist with the maintenance and repairs of equipment and facilities.
  • Collaborate with department colleagues on projects and events.
  • Manage the coordination of roughly 350 events annually and maintain high-quality game-day operations.

What We're Looking For

  • Experience planning and executing events within athletics or a comparable operations discipline; ability to oversee game-day operations and facility readiness.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills; experience coordinating custodial, grounds, trades, public safety and university partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple events, track expenses, and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proactive problem-solving, attention to facility maintenance, and the ability to troubleshoot on event days.
