Job Summary/Basic Function:
The purpose of this job is to extend staff presence for the public facilities and services into the evenings and weekends. This position also has the purpose of enhancing the capabilities of core services across the 7 days a week schedule. The Evening and Weekend Manager (EWM) reports to the Student Union Assistant Director for Operations within the division of Student Affairs. The EWM interacts frequently with staff from Facilities Operations, Campus Events, Hospitality Services, Campus Recreation, and Computing and Telecommunication Services to coordinate event needs. The EWM meets regularly with other building staff members to establish and ensure effective, ongoing communication and coordination between departments. Some coordination is required with the Public Safety Communications Officer and the Bookstore Manager.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED and at least 6 months full time or 12 months part time experience in Student Union operations or a convention or banquet center.
- Demonstrated supervisory, analytical and interpersonal skills
- Must know how to use a computer for word processing, creating spreadsheets and work in a database.
- Must be able to perform all parts of the job.
- Valid Ohio Driver’s License.
- Physical exam required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in student union operations’
- Knowledge and experience in the operation of audio/visual equipment
Essential Functions and percent of time:
- Assist with the administration and facility management of service operations across campus to ensure a safe, professional and clean environment for building occupants, members of the Wright State community and the general public. Manage operational activities and processes which supports events planned or scheduled at various locations across campus and supervise the use and security of facilities during evening and weekend hours. Provide direct customer service to event planners and coordinators. Follow established procedures for setting up for events and follow diagrams. Using EMS scheduling software, review and add appropriate inventories to space bookings. (30%)
- Assist the Assistant Director for Operations in hiring, training, evaluating and scheduling the student employees on the Operations Team. Oversee, direct, the activities and work with this important team to correctly complete event set ups on time or early. Following safety standards, lift and move carts, stages, tables, chairs and other items to set spaces. Construct stage systems, dance floors, conference tables that require heavy lifting, (up to 70 pounds), stooping, bending, crawling, pushing, (up to 105 pounds), and using a power drill. (30%)
- Serve as a liaison to Environmental Services personnel. (15%)
- Assist in the planning for large events. (10%)
- Assist with managing inventory. (5%)
- Maintain an Ohio Driver’s License and a certificate in using aerial lifts. (5%)
- Perform other duties as assigned. (5%)
Working Conditions
The working conditions include a cubicle office, indoors storage spaces, vehicles and expectations of heavy lifting, pushing, pulling within established safety limits and some work outdoors.
Physical exam required.
Work hours: 2:00pm – 10:30pm; Wednesday through Sunday.
