About the Role
Evaluations Specialist is responsible for evaluating incoming college and university transcripts, developing and maintaining a cross-reference of transfer courses, and determining transfer credit for applicants. The role supports admissions and academic departments by accurately recording transfer credit in the college records system and advising students on transfer policies. Reports to Manager of Admissions and Enrollment; non-exempt.
What You'll Do
- Evaluate transcripts for new and returning transfer admissions applicants
- Recognize academic, technical, and quarter hour course work
- Determine, and categorize acceptable transfer hours
- Consult with and advise students concerning transfer practices and policies
- Assist academic departments and other stakeholders in the determination of equivalent and non-equivalent course work
- Assign credit based upon standardized transfer tests such as CLEP and Advanced Placement
- Evaluate credit earned through military training
- Train student workers and Admissions employees regarding the transfer process
- Assist entering students with the admission process
- Assist applicants in person, online and over the telephone
- Answer phone, retrieve and respond to messages
- Other duties as assigned
What We're Looking For
- Associate degree
- Thorough understanding of college course organization and curriculum
- Knowledge of interpretation and evaluation of university catalogs
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, and students
- Skill and accuracy in making mathematical computations
- Familiarity with transfer software products, Banner preferred
- Ability to effectively communicate, orally and in writing
- Ability to work with a diverse student population
- Minimum of one-year experience in a college transfer and/or admission setting
- Experience in transcript evaluation
- Experience working in Banner
Nice to Have
- Experience with Banner (preferred)
- Prior experience in transfer evaluation
