Job title: Estate and Succession Planning Attorney
About the Role The Estate and Succession Planning Attorney will advise clients and draft a range of documents in estate planning, estate and gift tax, and business succession planning. This role supports partner-level attorneys and provides guidance to mid- to high-net-worth individuals and families across Michigan.
What You'll Do
- Meet with clients to discern their wishes and draft documents including Wills, Trusts, Powers of Attorney, Health Care Directives, irrevocable trusts, and business planning documents
- Advise on estate, gift, GST tax, and income tax matters
- Primary areas include estate and tax planning for mid to high net worth individuals and families, income tax, transfer tax and charitable planning
- Involved in estate administration matters, including estate, fiduciary income, and gift tax returns
- Counseling fiduciaries in estate and trust settlement and administration
- Preparing and filing probate administration documents and attending hearings in probate matters
What We're Looking For
- Knowledge in estate planning, estate and gift tax, and business succession planning
- Excellent written and oral presentation skills
- Ability to accurately summarize complex problems and proposed solutions
- Organizational and project management skills
- Proficient in online legal research services and other available legal resources
- Sound and independent judgment
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to manage new and existing client relationships
- Actively involved in activities resulting in business development
- Significant experience in complex Estate Planning matters
- Must be a graduate of an accredited law school
- Admitted to the Michigan State Bar, or eligible to promptly become admitted
