About this role

Allegro MicroSystems

The Allegro team is united by a clear purpose—advancing technologies that make the world safer, more efficient, and more sustainable. With over 30 years of experience in semiconductor innovation, we bring that purpose to life across every part of the business—from breakthrough product development and customer success to how we show up for each other and the communities we serve.

The Opportunity

At Allegro MicroSystems, we are committed to "Innovation with Purpose," delivering world-class semiconductor solutions that drive a safer, more sustainable, and autonomous future. As the Equipment Preventive Maintenance (PM) Engineer, you will be the vital technical owner ensuring maximum availability, operational readiness, and long-term reliability of all equipment within our Reliability Laboratory. Leading both hands-on maintenance technicians and strategic asset care programs, you will champion predictive and preventive strategies to achieve near-zero unplanned downtime. This role offers high visibility and cross-functional leadership, directly enabling seamless qualification operations and timely product releases for our automotive and industrial customers.

What You Will Do

  • Own Preventive & Predictive Maintenance: Architect, schedule, and execute comprehensive PM programs for all reliability test chambers, testers, and lab apparatus. Continuously evaluate and optimize PM frequencies, intervals, and methods using reliability engineering principles to prevent qualification disruptions.
  • Drive Reliability & Troubleshooting: Lead root-cause failure investigations and rapid troubleshooting to resolve complex electromechanical breakdowns. Develop permanent corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to eradicate repeat failures and implement predictive monitoring solutions.
  • Technical Team Leadership & Supervision: Oversee and mentor laboratory technicians performing equipment repairs, calibrations, and maintenance tasks. Define technical training pathways, enforce laboratory discipline, and evaluate personnel performance to ensure high operational standards.
  • Calibration & Compliance Management: Maintain 100% calibration compliance across all laboratory assets. Coordinate internal checks and third-party vendor calibration services, maintaining meticulous, audit-ready records for IATF 16949, ISO, and customer quality audits.
  • Equipment Qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ): Lead installation, operational, and performance qualification validation activities for newly commissioned lab systems. Verify machine specifications, generate formal qualification reports, and release validated tools to production testing.
  • Asset Lifecycle & Spare Parts Strategy: Maintain the comprehensive equipment database, tracking equipment health metrics (MTBF, MTTR, OEE), utilization rates, and obsolescence risks. Formulate strategic spare parts inventories and author capital investment recommendations for asset replacement.
  • Vendor Management & Lab Operations Support: Manage OEM service agreements, monitor supplier performance, and coordinate maintenance windows around urgent qualification milestones and capacity demands. Ensure strict alignment with laboratory safety SOPs and Environmental Management Systems (EMS).

What You Will Bring

  • Educational Foundation: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Professional

Experience

  • 3–5+ years of direct experience in equipment engineering, preventive maintenance, or reliability laboratory operations within a semiconductor or high-tech manufacturing facility.

  • Electromechanical & Control Systems Mastery: Strong hands-on proficiency in diagnosing complex electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, thermal, and automated control systems (including PLCs, environmental chambers, and test equipment).

  • Preventive & Predictive Methodologies: Solid background in establishing systematic PM schedules, condition monitoring, and applying structured problem-solving frameworks (e.g., 8D, DMAIC, Fishbone, 5-Why).

  • Compliance & Metrology Knowledge: Familiarity with equipment calibration standards, calibration traceability, and compliance requirements under IATF 16949 or ISO/IEC 17025.

  • Leadership & Collaboration: Proven capability to supervise and mentor technicians, communicate effectively with global reliability and operations teams, and interface confidently with third-party equipment vendors.
