Job title: Equipment Operator, Senior
About the Role This position operates light and heavy equipment and trucks in the operation, maintenance and/or construction of City facilities, grounds and infrastructure; maintains assigned equipment; and performs other work as required. The incumbent works within a general outline of work to be performed, and develops work methods and sequences under general supervision. The work is heavy in nature and involves lifting, pushing or raising objects; exposed to diverse outdoor conditions and potentially hazardous environments.
What You'll Do
- Operate dump trucks, motor graders, bulldozers, Bobcats, front-end loaders, skid steers, bush hogs, back hoes, compactors, trailers, tractors, trenchers and other heavy equipment to excavate, load/unload materials, move/haul materials, maintain City properties, cut down trees, install pipe, construct roads, and perform related tasks.
- Load/unload materials onto vehicles; move earth and materials as needed; maintain City properties and infrastructure.
- Inspect equipment to ensure proper and safe operating condition; report defects or required maintenance to supervisor; perform routine maintenance and cleaning of assigned tools and equipment.
- Use welding and cutting torches as needed in equipment maintenance; maintain accurate work records; assist co-workers as required; adhere to all policies, procedures, laws, regulations, and safety standards.
What We're Looking For
- High school diploma or GED; two (2) years of relevant prior experience; valid South Carolina Class B Driver’s License (CDL Class B).
- Ability to operate and maintain heavy equipment; physical capability to perform demanding tasks (including frequent lifting up to 75 lbs and occasional heavier effort).
- Knowledge of basic addition/subtraction, ability to read simple sentences and work orders, and basic writing and documentation skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively, work under general supervision, and make decisions affecting a few co-workers.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $35,000 - $44,000 per year.
- Work arrangement: Onsite; full-time role.
