Job Description

The Environmental Specialist is responsible for the mill’s environmental compliance assurance programs and for environmental reporting, as assigned by the EHS Manager. This position manages the function, permitting, monitoring, and reporting of the Effluent system. This includes state & federal permitting as well as the on-site beneficial reuse program. This position also manages the site SDS program and reports directly to the EHS Manager.

Responsibilities

• Ensure area safety for all people accessing the area.
• Manage effluent system.
• Monitor and adjust chemical feed rates on effluent chemicals.
• Monitor usage and schedule deliveries of effluent chemicals.
• Submit notifications on effluent equipment and coordinate with maintenance scheduling of work.
• Complete and submit KPDES reports to state.
• Organize, schedule and conduct effluent testing associated with KPDES requirements (Process, Storm Water discharges and toxicity testing).
• Complete and submit KPDES permit renewal when required.
• Complete and submit Water Withdrawal reports monthly.
• Organize and complete TCLP testing on samples sent to landfill.
• Complete mill fiber loss analysis bi-weekly as IP sustainability group requires.
• Complete and submit GHG annual report to EPA.
• Conduct weekly testing for GHG emissions.
• Operate and manage odor control system.
• Organize and manage annual dredging projects.
• Manage beneficial reuse program of effluent solids.
• Submit beneficial reuse annual report to state.
• Complete and submit Lab Certification application annually.
• Successfully complete proficiency testing annually for Lab Certification.
• Conduct walk-thru with all A&E techs for skill certification.
• Train all new hires on SDS website and environmental policies affecting the mill for hazardous waste, universal waste and wastewater.
• Maintain/Update all work documents associated with effluent and lab procedures.
• Conduct multiple process control testing for effluent daily.
• Maintain SDS library for Maysville Mill.
• Conduct solids sampling following production parameters

Requirements

• 3-5 Years of related experience in manufacturing and environmental areas
• Knowledge of environmental regulations and how to apply
• Must have demonstrated track record of success working in a team environment with focus on results, safety and ability to solve problems.
• Must be able to obtain State of KY Wastewater 3 License within one (1) year of employment in this position
• Good communication skills – both written and oral
• Good computer skills in standard applications, i.e., Microsoft Word and Excel

Preferred:

• Associate or BS degree in science related field
• Knowledge of environmental regulations and how to apply
• Holder of State of KY Wastewater 3 License
